Which power supply, best for 8800ultra?

My power supply on my 2nd machine which I'll be putting brand new components into is dying. I can put my power supply in the 2nd machine or chose another supply for the 2nd machine only which will be almost identical to my current specs with a 2600pro instead.

I'm using this currently and it's getting the job done just fine.

I can get this for $50 free shipping and it's 650 w but wondering if it'd be better.

If you have some recommendations on good other supplies I'd be open to hear them. The problem I have is the only real reason to upgrade is if I chose to sli, which will require me to purchase 1000w plus power supply and I just can't justify it right now so I really only need a psu good enough to handle a 650i ultra, 2600pro 2 gig ram, and e4300.

Some things to keep in mind;
Electronics are not "IDEAL". IF you get a PSU with the exact wattage you "need" then you will probably end up having to replace more than just the PSU, soon.
PSU's are the heart of your system, if your heart is always beating as fast as possable (to keep up with the demand) it won't last very long. The harder the PSU works the more heat it generates.

A PSU that supplies more power than you need works less hard and last longer.
Always pay attention to the power requirements of the GPU (in amps).

When Buying a NEW PSU, get the BEST, QUALITY PSU you can afford with MORE power than you "need". This allows room for future upgrades, and will give you better overclocks, smoother operation, and the PSU will last longer because it's not working so hard to supply the draw of your system.

I'm hearing you but psu's are always a gamble, some have a better grasp on their internal workings than others but I do not, so while I'm confident my psu will run my 2nd machine fine, what I'm not sure of is if the antec link I posted would be a better psu than the rosewill I'm using.

see the psu guide in my sig if you want some good psu brands. i'd say a 750 should be good for an ultra and a quad core.

That cooler master may run the system, but I wouldn't dream of trying it...
And honestly your current psu doesn't look great either, but if its working, I would save the money and get something bigger later because odds are you are pushing that one pretty well, especially with the overclock.

Those actually get great reviews from JonnyGuru. Seem to be quality psus.

Might I also suggest looking a Seasonic, Corsair, and PCP&C psus.

Those rails are already combined inside that psu, so it may as well be a single rail

Alright alright, I did own a better psu and I did own a gtx, but shit blew up and I'm just trying to get back right. Any other suggestions?

nice choice, and yes its a little big for your system as it is now so ask yourself this...

i assume you were thinking of getting it as a starting point to upgrade your whole system, so ask yourself, by the time you finish will you have enough leftover parts to build another computer? if your answer is yes then just go for a decent psu around 600 watts to get you going now. then plan to sell your whole system as is and use that money to pay for your new system and start planning a whole new system from scratch.

but keaker, the less of the psu's capacity that you use, the cooler the psu will run,
(meaning the more watts it can do as well) so if he wants to get a nice big psu, i dont mind, it'll keep his system cool and upgrade ready.

Yeah, I have enough parts for a 2nd system now, considering selling it and investing in an sli mobo and using some of my current parts for another build later on. No rush right now though, just want some rock solid parts. I picked up a q6600 today and the only thing I can think of wanting at this point is water cooling.

yes that is totally correct if he was keeping this computer, but he will be replacing his system in the near future so my thinking was "if" he had a major upgrade in mind in the near future then dont look to "spend" on the old system he will be getting rid of and instead invest the money into the "new" build.

it was to buy only for the necessary cost of getting his system running and not thinking of keeping it long term. so thats where i was coming from with the thinking of just getting an exact replacement for the dead psu.

Thanks again oh wise posters, I initially asked for input and then ignored the input I requested. The above psu is the one I just ordered as my failed logic got me a dud psu.

Newegg is starting to get on the suspicious side imo. The supply I bought (900w itz abs) had almost all bad reviews and they yanked it off newegg. So I was watching the reviews on their other products and the bad remarks are mysteriously vanishing, almost all their products have straight 5 eggs. So much for trusting customer feedback there.
