Super Talent Technology, a leading manufacturer of flash storage solutions and DRAM memory modules, today announced that the company has passed an ISO audit and has been awarded ISO 9001 certification. The company in recent years has invested heavily in upgrading and expanding its San Jose based manufacturing facility, which now boasts 14 state-of-the-art surface mount (SMT) lines. At the same time, Super Talent has honed its manufacturing processes to further improve quality. Super Talent VP of Business Operations, Mr. CH Lee noted, "This ISO 9001 certification is the result of years of work implementing rigid quality standards across our organization. It's a significant milestone that demonstrates Super Talent's commitment to constant improvement and to customer satisfaction."

A marketing "own goal". If ISO 9001 has been so hard for them to obtain, then they have obviously had some serious quality management problems in the past. They are advertising their previous problems, and perhaps we werent aware they had such quality problems before. Oh dear. :nutkick: And, BTW, ISO 9001 is about how you "manage" quality; it is not a guarantee of quality. I'll be staying away from Super Talent now that I've learned this.

lemonadesoda is spot on...iso9001 means nothing. ALL you have to do is write down what you do, and make sure everyone does it that way. It doesnt mean that way is right. If their SOP said "take each stick of memory and rub it with a piece of carpet, then insert into package" and they did it that way....then they could be iso 9001 certified. it equates to a fraternity for corporations. btw...my company is iso 9001 and 14001 certified..

companies in the caribbean have exceeded 14001 (i think 21001, not sure, but not a tech company) this is very poor, not much of an achievement IMHO. I dont see what teh hoopla is about.

that is not really how iso works..each standard is not "exceeded" by another. by that i mean if you want to be iso certified for environmental compliance you get iso 14001, if you want to be certified in qa/qc you get iso 9001. one isnt better than the other, they are all different, and vary depending on your industry and needs.

ISO 9001 is a bit more than just "write down what you do and follow it". It's guidelines and audit tests try to ensure that there is a smooth process flow in all directions. This, by nature, helps a company to improve both productivity and quality performance from both a manufacturing and customer feedback point of view.

It also tries to ensure proper (upper) management overview of all processes through consistant review and improvement of said processes.

I am not saying that ISO is a guarantee of quality, but having procedures and process controls in place is better than not having them, and a step in the right direction.

i have had PLENTY of iso audits...some just a checkup, and some a full blown recertification.. my problem is ....THEY DONT TAKE IT AWAY.. if you mess up or are messing up with your SOP'S ..you get a minor or major infraction they expect you to fix before your next audit.. if its not fixed...wrote up again...not fixed ...wrote up again.... if it was so important, they should take it away if you botch it.. but that is just my exp, maybe my auditors are not so good.

ISO 9001 Certification is a good thing. This certifies that the specs and building process is top notch.

that is just not the case.. it COULD mean that..or it could not. again, it is all how the company wants to implement it. lately, it seems to have become more of a fraternity than an actual acheivement. :::hey are you iso 9k yet.... of course, isnt everybody::::. they sell it as iso companys only wanting to do business with other iso companys, and the profits will come from that.

reguardless.. i am a trained iso 14k and 9k internal auditor......and i wont believe in iso fully until you can actually LOSE the cert after you PAY to get it.
