Videocard Dilema: DX10 Edition

Well as most of you know i owna 7900GS ala foxconned, and my card is great except crysis rapes it violently. Ive been wondering what to do, so im putting it to the jury.

I game @ 12xx * 1024

1. 1GB 8800GT @ ~$300
2. 640 MB 8800GTS Superclocked @ $300
3. 512 MB HD3870 @ $230
4. Wait and see what the next gen brings

I'd go 8800GT in another week or so. The price should go down some, and nothing else offers better price/performance...

3870 for sure, you game at a normal res so you can get that or a 512mb 8800gt. thought he 3870 has a nice cooler.

Hopefully the stuff you named here will come down in price.

Honestly I think there are too many in the 8800 series now. I'm getting lost as to which is better. GT, GTS, GTX etc was bareable, but now we have different nm tech, different number of stream processors etc.. plus we have anomalies like the 1Gb GTS etc

Where are you finding a 1GB 8800GT

.

Edit: For you, I think an 8800GT (so long as it's 512MB or more. Crysis gets 15FPS high settings on a 256MB 8800GT, and 30FPS high settings on a 512MB 8800GT at 1280x1024) will do fine. Most of the blockbuster games out there are heartily backed by NVIDIA, so now is a good time to buy an NVIDIA card

The 3870 is a waste of money and only an ATI fanboy would buy one.

Go read this review, carefully.

The 3870 is a piece of crap in all aspects. It's only advantage is slightly lower power draw, but thats not nearly enough to make up for being 20% slower per dollar than the 8800GT.

And the kicker, even though the 3870 has lower power draw, it's 17% slower per watt. Less efficient architecture!
