Well first off I want a gaming PC. I play games every week and the computer is on 24/7. I have a 22" Samsung LCD monitor which I got from Bestbuy on Blackfriday.

Anyways here's what I am thinking of getting.

Motherboards I am thinking of:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128059
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131187

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115029

Power Supply:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104037

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811212033

Video Card(Also thinking of getting the 8800 series instead, depending on how much I have at the time):
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130290

Memory:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820220144

Drives:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827151151

Hard Drive:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136075

Should I get anymore extra fans or something like that?

What do you guys think?

spend a bit more on the motherboard, get something with a p35 chipset (preferably an asus :) ).

Spend a little more on the GPU and get an 8800 GT / GTS

and ull have a killer gaming system..the patriot memory should OC well as should the CPU.

I wouldnt skimp on psu either

One of them is a p35 chipset, the Gigabyte one. The psu is enough for my system according to the wattage calculator in the sticky. Its also one of the recommended brands for PSU according to the sticky.

for a budget built gaming pc, I highly recommend an AMD setup, they are cheap and you get an AWESOME bang for your buck, which is why I have stayed AMD.. you can get a good AMD cpu and mobo, and after market cooler for under $350.. try and do that with intel. also.. that case is horrible for air flow.. check out cooler masters and antecs.. a good power supply is a must. honestly.. for $850 shipped.. you can come up with a system similar to mine except for the asus crosshair and 8800GTX.. just get a GT or GTS 512 instead and for a hard drive.. you can get a 250GB Seagate 16MB cache for like what, $5 more? and the psu.. you want something with like.. maybe 3 or more 12v rails with a rating of at least 38amps :p

Here's what I found for your recommendations.

CPU:

PSU:

Motherboard:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128074

Video Card:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150264

Drives:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827151151

Memory:

Case:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119068

Grand Total for all that is $992.40. Thats not cheap at all. Thats even with your 4 +12v rails and the seagate 16mb cache.

dont waste ur money on an amd setup. i recommend the e6750, abit ip35-e, g.skill 2gb kit (roughly 50 to 70 dollars), 8800gt (can be had for around 250), get a cheaper cooler master case (around 30 to 40), then a 250gb WD sata hard drive (another 70). u can always spend 20 more and get an arctic freezer 7 pro for cooling too. dvd writer is 30. without af7 pro u get to 725 and with u get to 745. id get a corsair vx 450 with it, thats another 65 with shipping from newegg. so ur total is 810 roughly speaking.

EDIT: all prices are from newegg, i assume another 25 for shipping tops? still within ur budget. keep in mind a 22inch lcd does need a serious gfx card like an 8800gt, not something liek an 8600

Don't even bother with the Nvidia 8600 series. You can get an HD 2900GT for the same price as your posted 8600GT, but without rebate (newegg subscribers). The HD 2900GT will blow the 8600 series away.

Edit: NewEgg actually dropped the price to $129.99 without the rebate!!!

It's because its OEM. I was also thinking of the Radeon HD 3850 256MB.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161211

For the Radeon HD 3850 256MB do I also need a motherboard with PCI 2.0 x16 also? Because those things cost in the $200's

Anyways my max $ I can spend on a new rig is probably $700 instead of $850.

I say go the p5K based motherboard. It's confirmed by asus to definitely work with the new 45nm procs that are IIRC being released end of January.

EDIT: SO it would help with the futureproofing of the rig.

I would drop the 8800GT from that otherwise a good selection and get an HD3870 instead, ONLY so as I could get a better CPU than that Alandale Poop, maybe's a 2160/2180.

I struggled with that too, Tatty. But since he is primarily a gamer, I went lighter on the cpu for a much better gpu...

Yea, get a better P35 board, and if it's asus, make sure its at least a p5k-e, the vanilla versions don't overclock as well. As far as PSU's, whoever said the more rails the better, having a single 12V rail is far better than 3-4. Of course, that's where things get expensive, so you should be ok. For CPU, go with either a cheap e21x0, or go for the e6750. The Allendales don't really have a good place in the market right now, and you might as well go with the surrounding CPU's instead. Since you're going P35, go with a 3870, but if you can, definitely shoot for the 8800GT! It's great!

DS3L is a great mobo, the CPU and ram is great. The GPU is not. Go for at least a 3850, or 8800GT, you will need it.

Here's what I thought of. Cheaper than Paulie's build and it has an extra DVD combo drive. The motherboard is fast and the graphic card is in the mid-high range. But is it better?

drop that 8800gt back to a 3850 (512mb if you game @ high res), get a antec sonata III case it comes with a nice 500watt psu, you might want to order an extra fan with that case because I think it only comes with one 120mm fan... that should drop your pirce a bit.

this is referring to Paulies post.

Edit: do you have a dvd player/burner? drop lock you forgot to add ram to your list :p

also you could skip out on an aftermarket heatsink and get that later on down the road locally.
