When will the hardware sales begin?

I've been out the loop in terms of hardware upgrades for a while now. I usually treat myself every Christmas to a new upgrade, but i can't remember whether the prices drop, like January sales, or whether they just remain consistent throughout the year? Because it seems silly shopping around now while im in no dire need of a new GFX card if the prices are just going to drop soon? February seem's too long to wait for the 9XXX series to hammer down prices though.

Q's wont drop until the 45nm chips are out (now delayed to Feb/Mar), if then even. Look at the last gen E6600/E6700's - they havent dropped since the price cuts in June/July this year, and they are reaching EOL, so I wouldn't bet on a price cut for the current Quads, they'll just stop producing them and sell whatever is left in the channel.

might as well just go for it, intels not dropping prices untill the 9000 series comes out and that might be middle of next year. there is no way to tell when they will lower prices if ever.

grab a christmas discount and just go for it, newegg has a tiny discount on some things, like $5 here and there lol but its better than nothing.

FYI they have 8800GT in stock at the moment.

Like keakar said, just get it now if you want to go Quad. I dont see the prices falling for at least 3-4 months, and thats if the store overstocked on the old Quads and wants to move them out.

Sorry Hux, you got hijacked. I say get what you can now at the best xmas prices. Like you said, I don't see anything coming out in the immediate future to sink GPU prices. Were you thinking NV or ATI flavors? Nvida will have the 9xxx series in probably late Q1 and ATI will have their R680 x2(2 cores on one board), and the older cards WILL come down (just like the G80 GT/GTS cards have since G92) at that point, but when the new gen will officially be released is anyones guess.

the only thing i see getting cheaper in the next few months might be monitors due to new developements where its cheaper to make em but cpus and video cards will stay at these prices at least till summer when the 9000 series cpus come out. i also heard nvidia will wait to put out their new cards because the ati cards arent any better than the ones nvidia sells now so they plan to delay putting out the new cards till summer as well.
