The latest and official ATI Catalyst driver package version 8.1 is ready to be tested. Catalyst 8.1 introduces MultiView support. This feature provides for hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering across multiple graphics adapters. MultiView will provide hardware accelerated 3D rendering in a system containing multiple graphics cards on an extended desktop arrangement. It will allow for the rendering performance and additional frame buffer resources to be evenly shared with the second and third graphics adapters. This feature will be supported under Windows XP (32 and 64 bit versions), Windows Vista (32- and 64-bit versions), and the Linux operating system. For more information on Catalyst 8.1, including all of the resolved issues in this release, please see the Catalyst 8.1 release notes.

Oh, thanks. Really. Thanks for trying, ATI, I guess.

At least they're admitting the problem now. :p

See! AMD Drivers DO get better over time! Now my CCC will stop crashing!

I might actually get this set of drivers, I think I'm running 6.4's or something old like that.

The OverDrive version detection for legacy products is now resolved. Further
details can be found in topic number 737-31569

More good stuff... does that mean overdrive will work for all kinds of stuff now and not just the bleeding edge?

Funny, it's not really thier problem, it's chipset problems. Anyone who bought a DX10 AGP card and are complaining how DX10 doesn't work, didn't do thier research before buying.

My X800 is an AGP card, and the new drivers don't give any problems at all... they don't give many benefits either admittedly, but I still stay up to date just for the sake of it. I'm not sure exactly which cards that issue affects, I just know it isn't mine :)

Oh, of course not, but I was talking about owners of older AGP cards, like myself.

Aye, I see now on their site that they recommend downloading a file at https://a248.e.akamai.net/f/674/9206/0/www2.ati.com/drivers/hotfix/xp32_8.451.4_57941.exe to fix it -- frankly, I'm a bit confused, since right below it they say that they don't support it...?

AGP Products arent ATIs problem, 3850 wasnt even made to run on AGP it was made for PCI Express, so people have to have problems with PCIe>AGP bridges, aka bridges sucks allways just like PCI to SATA and USB to IDE and so on

atleast ATI fixes things in drivers, every singel month, last time i checked nvidia dosnt even release drivers monthly so good i love ati, to bad i reinstalled 7.12 hehe, gonna upgrade to 8.1 now hehe :toast:

I need to get rid of my 7.12 Omega drivers and install these. I prefer the Catalyst Control Panel. Anyway, I hope that ATI has worked on better UT3 support. I can't understand why when I upgraded to a 2900xt that I now get 30 fps vs. 40 with my 7800gtx...

I got a MACHO boost in UT3! After running a few time-demos with both the 7.12 and 8.1 drivers, here are the results:

mapname changelist datestamp avg FPS % over 30 FPS
WAR-Floodgate 206281 2007.01.16-17.08.05 50.32 87.69 (8.1 @ 820/960)
WAR-Floodgate 206281 2007.01.16-16.53.22 46.72 85.20 (8.1 @ 740/820)
WAR-Floodgate 206281 2007.01.16-16.36.27 32.28 67.30 (7.12 @ 820/960)

mapname changelist datestamp avg FPS % over 30 FPS
WAR-Torlan 206281 2007.01.16-17.05.51 49.23 91.09 (8.1 @ 820/960)
WAR-Torlan 206281 2007.01.16-16.55.20 44.30 87.45 (8.1 @ 740/820)
WAR-Torlan 206281 2007.01.16-16.38.45 47.03 87.21 (7.12 @ 820/960)

While I obviously didn't do quite as well in Torlan the 2nd time around, I think that this is more due to the limitations of my cpu and the fact that I ran that test at stock speeds. I got a boost of 14 fps in Floodgate though! :nutkick:

Edit: I updated my benchmarks with overclocked results on 8.1. Wow! This performance boost is simply amazing. Note that these benchmarks were all taken at max details.

Edit2: I got 8870 3dmarks with the 7.12 drivers, now I get 8999 with the 8.1 drivers!

Wow this driver is nothing but trouble. After playing like 30mins of CoD4 I get a black screen. My comp is still going but the video just shuts off.. starting to piss me off to new levels.

Wow, I knew something was funky with the fonts with Cat 7.12. All digits are sharp again. Before with Cat 7.12 it was blurry. Not sure why that was but all 2d operations are as they were prior to cat 7.12
