Issues with CPU Cooler

I recently installed a Zalman 9500 CPU cooler and I noticed that the bracket is pushing against my northbridge heatsink.

Would it be possible to purchase a smaller after market northbridge heatsink?

..just wondering.

I don't think the Zalman mounting bracket is necessarily causing harm, but I am a perfectionist.

They make CPU coolers so big these days.

Some companies do make after market north bridge heat sinks. You'll just have to find one that fits.

This one's a little smaller, but not sure performance wise how they compare. Check the dimensions and how much space you need from the bracket. This one is 37 x 37mm vs. 81 x 37mm on the one Thermo linked to.

well how much is in the way?

is it something where you can just pass a dremel on it to grind off the corner?

as thermo said there are plenty of choices out there but in my observations most are bigger and sit higher than stock because they are offering better cooling not trying to be low profile for clearance issues.

if it has room to fit i think this is what you should get: http://www.ncixus.com/products/24554/NORTHBRIDGE/Nexus Technology USA/

if that wont fit then get this one: http://www.ncixus.com/products/24670/CNB-S1/EnzoTech/

it will let you bend the pins to fit your application and still maintain superior cooling efficiency

Well it's 48x40x70 mm, so your going to have to do some measurements on your MB to know for sure.

and 40mm is about 1 1/2" and 80mm is about 3" so that makes it about 1 1/2' x 1 1/2' x 2 3/4"

Can you mount that bracket the other way (front to back of case)?

wait! if thats the problem, then just flip your mounting bracket 180 degrees so the clip is on the opposit side. if im seeing it rite the other end does not stick out right? which would mean it wont touch the northbridge.

ps - just to be clear, i was talking about dremeling the heatsink not the clip. but seeing the problem, thats not going to be the best idea because you would need to grind too much.

I think if he just flips it around, the other end will be up against it, as the piece I circled has to clip on to the other end. I say rotate the mounting bracket on the MB and install the clip in West/East position, and problem should be solved.

Dude! I am a retard. All I need to do is flip the bracket. I followed the instructions exactly how they are laid out int he booklet. But there is no reason that I couldn't just flip the bracket. The actual cooler will stay in the same position so it doesn't matter.

Yes! I will do it when I get home from work. Thanks guys. (I'm excited now)
