Does 8800 GT have driver problems?

I here the 8800 GT's have driver issues. Is this true? If so i might go with the G92.

I owned a 8800GT for a month or so. The only problem I had was that it was louder than the 8800 GTX I sold and replaced. As for driver problems, if there are any they aren't major. I never had any performance or stability issues in any games. ATI has driver problems, such as non-function Image Scaling.

Every graphics card has some driver issues. The 8800 GT is the best out there. I think you shouldn't be scared away...

Thats the gts g92 you can get a gts g85 but the gt is a g92
Reason why it says g92 by that gts is to set it apart from the old g85 gts which is also a 640 mb where as the g92 is 512
does this make sense? see the gt is only g92 so no reason to say g92 gt

both are good choices, but both will be bottlenecked by your e4400. as soon as you get that q6600, though, they'll open up and show their true colors, so to say.

The old GTS is based on the G80 90nm core (where did you get G85 from?! :confused:

) - as is the GTX and Ultra

The new GT and GTS are both based on the new G92 65nm core. (as is IIRC the GS)

Your CPU will surely bottleneck a G92 card, however...you will most definitely see major improvements considering you're using a 8600GTS right now, I owned a 8600GT once, and switching to any of the high-end cards will result in major gain as long as you're not using an ancient CPU. The CPU does need to be upgraded to get the most of the new video card, but you can still get the GPU now and reap the benefits.

i had 2 8800GT i have a few problems with them same games they didnt like and now and then when i would turn my computer on it wouldn't post ,and 8800GT is a G92 same as the new 8800GTS, i would go for a 8800GTS G92 512MB or even a old 8800GTS G80, in gaming the old 8800GTS had better drivers because how long it had be out, the 8800GT mite get a better score in 3DMARK 06 because it was using DX9 but when it come to using D10 it didnt like it.

I have a 8800GT (Specs to the left) And the only issue i ever had was the card heating up until i ran riva tuner and turned the fan from 29 to 70, fixed that problem. Ide rather hear the whirl of a fan than to have a melted card.I then also added the Nvida4display loop fix, but idk if adding it or not made any difference in performance. as for over clocking, im still clocking it further up than where it is now.

I chose the 8800GT over the GTS/GTX/and Ultra because of its price to performance ratio.

both of them will.. one more than the other.. games are still grafix card limited..

bottleneck aint the right word.. but in simple terms your grafix card will govern how your games play not your cpu..

the performance mite be there in DX9 game atm but in DX10 games it not at all i've had a 8800GTS 640 and a 8800 Ultra and the performance from the 8800GTS to the 8800GT sucked ill say one thing if the 8800GT is better, that its not then it would cost more than a old 8800GTS G80 but it doesnt the price's for them are still around the same as the new 8800GTS if you can find one,thats why there a low end card, i had myn for a month i sold the frist one in 2 weeks on ebay got my money back, then the other 2 weeks after made more than i paid for it

, there not a bad card but when it comes down to gaming i wouldnt buy one maybe if i was using a 15inch screen with DX10 :laugh:

issues i had was with the card lagging it couldn't keep up with my system 9-14 FPS is crysis i was getting put my old 8800GTS in lol 17-23FPS thats alot better to me and i think the drivers will take time to get better just like the 8800GTS-GTX-Ultra did there good cards now because there be out for a year now and they had time work the drivers

I'm gonna get a Q6600 anyway, so no worries. :toast:

. Then i will problaly get a GT and SLI in the future so my 680i doesn't go to waste. But i first need a new case and i am going to the Cooler Master CM690 i heard good things about that case.

BTW: Can a Q6600 support 2x 8800 GT's in SLI well( my E4400 sure as hell can't)?

Your E4400 would be fine with SLI GT's in games if only you overclocked it!

I am planning on SLI G92 GTS with my little E4300 albeit its clocked at 3ghz. (this will go higher soon)

hmm, i noticed my GT was a little slow when i play gfx heavy games, like SC4. But when i overclocked it up from 675 to 740 i noticed a hug performance, and now im considering sli. But i can't find any gt KO's at the egg.

CDdude55: i think you will like the 6600, if you clock it over 3Ghz (fairly easy with G0 stepping) and run two GT's in sli you should be good. Thats what i was going to do at first, but ran out of cash for the second gt. Make sure its around 3Ghz. If your going to overclock past 2.8 ide suggest an aftermarket cooler,

Depending on who you get your gfx cards from, EVGA GT's go for either a SSC or a KO edition as in GT and Superclocked ones aren't as good IMo.

I think the major probable driver issue for the G92's is poor texture management, resulting in some disproportionately low benchmarks for the 256MB G92 boards--in certain games at high resolution a 256MB 8800GT performs worse than a Radeon HD3850! :wtf:

I suppose it could be the product of a hardware design flaw, but I'd like to think that the issue could be corrected.

If you're getting a 512MB G92 it doesn't appear to be anything to worry about.

i would go for a 8800GTS 512MB not many games like sli, i would just pay that little bit more for a better card

I got a 4k jump in 06 using same speeds on CPU and the rest of the computer other than the video card of course were also the same. I went from a GTS640 (G80) to an 8800GT 512 (G92) and I see a MAJOR improvement. However the new GTS (G92) is faster than the GT. GoW doesnt like my GT overclocked for some reason so before I play the game, I have to load up rivatuner really quick and hit the default tab. When I go to reboot my overclock is right back anyway. That is really the only issue I have with it. Its probably more or less a driver thing. Just waiting on nVIDIA to get off their ass and release a new driver.

yer i sure a performance drop in some new drivers with the 8800GT when playing crysis i ended up using xp to play it, i ran it on high no problems but the last stage lagged abit.

Yeah...like I said, once nVIDIA release a newer, more mature driver than its current 12/20/07 driver, Im hoping it will resolve the issue.
