The 8800Gts is generally 10 to 20% faster than the GT. It also costs more, so if you're willing to spend more money the Gts is the better card.

Well taking benches into consideration i would say the GTS 512mb
But if you take value for your £/$'s maybe the GT..?
I own a GTS 512mb but as i have never owned a GT i would'nt know to compare..

GTS G92 is definitely the faster card, but according to techPowerUp! reviews the 8800 GT is the best card around in terms of bang-for-buck. ;)

I'd definitely go with the GT and invest the extra saved money into a $50+ cooler and OC that baby like crazy.

What brand of GTS are you getting?

The EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS SSC Edition is a Great card

It has 1 MHz (like make a huge difference) more than the GTX and equal memory speed.

So what if the GTX has 768 Mb memory and the GTS SSC only 640 Mb... who the %#$@ is gonna run that huge of a resolution.

Save yourself some cash (200$) and just get the GTS SSC, heyy it comes with a free Crysis game, or Enemy Territory game also!

Do you think a Q6600 at stock speed will ''bottleneck'' any of these cards?

My friend has a 8800 GTS 512MB and a slightly OCed (like 100 MHz) Q6600... Works like a beaut on Crysis (what we playin nowadays) The 8800 GTS SSC card will be able to handle all that quad can whip at it, its faster than a GTX

The Geforce 8800GT 512MB is faster than the 8800GTS 640MB and 320MB. But the 8800GTS (G92) 512MB is faster than all of them. If you can spend the extra money, get a 8800GTS G92 512MB, it's a bit cooler and quieter than a 8800GT...although you could always get a aftermarket cooler. Just remember that you may kill your lifetime warranty if you use an aftermarket cooler.

Really depends on your budget. For me I'm just wondering if G92s are a good buy since the Geforce 9s are coming out in February. Just my 2 cents.

Unless u are extremely into benching or hardcore into gaming with the best, you wont need a 9xxx series coming out(cept maybe midrange 9600) the 9800gtx i bet will be an arm and a leg. :D

i wouldn't say it faster atm maybe in DX9 and 3dmark 06 but not in DX10 games

I have just 'downgraded' from a GTX to a GTS 512mb at tbh I can't tell the difference between the two cards (I also gained £30 from it :D).

Benchmarks may show a difference but real world they are so close at the resolution I game at there is simply no noticable difference. (please note my card is a BFG OC model so the stock card may be a tad slower)

As for the GT vs GTS well if you want to save some money then go for the GT or if you want a slightly faster card get the GTS. The performance difference between the two at lower resolutions won't be that great.

However if you can get a GTS for a good price I would go for that.

Seeing as the question was simply....which is the best than the answer is equally simple.....the 8800GTS G92 512MB. I have both cards, the 8800GT is very good, the GTS is a fantastic card IMO.

@ AlKaPwNeD3............... regarding your post about memory quantity, I can only assume that you are not aware that Crysis, at just a resolution of 1280 x 1024 with max settings and AA enabled exceeds 512MB of memory?

stop. running. at. stock.

that is all.

I have a Evga 680i SLI SE, i couldn't OC quads even if i wanted. But it doesn't matter to me that much. I am still keeping my motherboard tho and am not switching it till a pretty long while(maybe to a 780i). Im fine with running quad cores at stock. Just want to know if the Q6600 is going to ''bottleneck''.

I'd definitely go with the GT and invest the extra saved money into a $50+ cooler and OC that baby like crazy.

Or you could spend the extra fifty and get the GTS, OC it beyond GT capabilities and still be able to rely on the stock cooler :)

Because they're considerably close in price, this is a no brainer I think. If you're LOOKING to buy a good card, or in this case the best (for medium resolutions), then you're not looking to salvage twenty or thirty bucks here and there, hence the GT is pointless.

If however you MUST save/shave some cost(s), then the GT won't dissapoint.

And yes, the Q would theoretically bottleneck, there is no processor out there for the public consumer that does not 'bottleneck' to some degree, but in terms of real world performance, no, I think you'd be fine, especially as you increase the resolutions.
