I have an AGP motherboard , and want to buy an AGP graphic card as a temporary solution for my gaming needs b4 i upgrade to pci-e . Here's my choices and doubts :

HD 2600 XT -> my favourite choice but skeptical about driver support

7600 GT DDR 2 -> DDR 2 seems slow , cant find DDR 3 version

PNY 7800 GS -> not sure whether this is better than 7600 GT and how good is PNY model

X1650 GT -> not an XT , but how much lower performance ?

x1950 PRO -> will my 420 W PSU with 18 A on 12 V rail be able to handle it ?

Which One should i choose between these 7600 GT , HD 2600 XT , 1650 GT

MY budget - 120 $

M Y SYSTEM :

P4 Northwood 2.8 Ghz ( Overclocked to 3.2 Ghz ) , ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard , 1.7 GB RAM , Soundblaster X-fi Xtreme Audio , 250 GB HDD

If they are all the same price and can be had for $120 or less...I say the 2600XT, no brainer really, no matter the usage of the PC!

2600XT> Last generation (behind HD3800 series), performs like X1650XT - CHOICE!!

7600GT> Good card but uses GDDR2, the 2600XT are better.

7800GS> Good card, better than 7600GT, but the 2600XT stills is the choice and PNY is a good brand.

X1650GT> an underclocked X1650XT, posses the same PPL, just lower clocks, performs better than X1650PRO and 7600GT but the 2600XT are newer and performs better.

X1950PRO> This can be a good choice, performs better than the 2600XT, just compare prices....and yes, with 18amps you can run it, but depends on how many things your PC is powering (HDDS,CD-ROMs, FANs, etc.), if your PC powers the basic then yes, other than that you can experience stability issues.

The matter resides in prices, performance/pricewise always will be the better choice.

cheers.

hi
i was in ur same situation before and i got the hd2600xt
i have p42.6ht 766ram and bought 500psu with 23a at 12v
the driver issue solved using 8.1FIX u can downloaded from ati website
the card itself is extremly powerful and fast i got in 3dmar05 about 5300
my friend got the same exact system of mine except 3.0ghz p4 1gbram and 450wattpsu with
16a @12v and 7600gt ddr3 he got also about 5300
so i overclocked my CPU ((actually software overclock i overclocked my FSB))
TO GET 2.8GHZ and my score go up to 5800
what i want to say is that its hugely bottleneked by the CPU
so get it cause its also got DX10 support
i try this card on VISTA and XP and its perform better on XP (may be my lack of ram is the reasone))
i played bioshock at high like a dream may be 90% of the time.
i hope this was helpfull.

actully a 7800GS is faster than the 2600XT, the 1650GT is slower than 7600GT but can oc to equal 7600GT

My Sapphire X1950pro 512mb Chugs a bit in Oblivion.
Runs very smooth in Bioshock.
Plays S.T.A.L.K.E.R terribly.

2600xt by FAR.

Sorry to bust heads here... my 2600xt kept up with my 1950pro very easily until higher level AA/AF was enabled and even then it was not far behind, without AA/AF my 2600xt was indeed "faster". Plus it uses little to no power.

Needless to say no WAY a 7800gs can touch a 2600xt, considering a 7950GT can't touch a 1950pro.

My vote for the 7800GS ... Only if you can find it cheaper than $110USD. If not, X1950.

i saw an XFX 7900GS AGP around, and have owned a 512meg x1950pro, that rocked.

but really if you can fork out a decent amount finding a 512 meg agp HD3850 would be worthwhile.

Look at the machine we are talking about... An HD3850 would be massively under cut by the processor.

What games do you play and at what resolution?

I'm just trying to get a better idea of which games you play that are graphics intensive... Because like Crysis you wont get that with a 1950pro even...

But if your talking about like Counter Strike, my old 2600xt nailed me an 170fps 1280x1024 max with max AA/AF.

Can u post ur results of any directx game like Oblivion .

Hey man,glad i can help
will i got Sapphire HD2600xt 256MB GDDR3 AGP version

will i try Cnc3 at high setting no aa in it is very smooth
Supreem comander, will u may laugh but it depend on the size of map am playing:confused:
the smaller the faster high to med fidelity
nfsprostreet at current cpu speed struggels but FSB overclocking solve very much of it
PREY play like dream at high
NSFcarbon also very smooth

actually when enabeling AA preformance decreases

in VISTA in performance rank i got ((5.9)) for 3d gaming and ((5.3)) on 2d performance
but my CPU/RAM ((3.9)) so overall is 3.9

will i still have a problem i cant see the tempreture of this card except using CCC
no rivatuner or atitt or atitool

overclocking problem and fan speed control ,solved buy editing some line in rivatuner config file,((i dont remember exactly, but the idea is to make rivatuner support the agp version ))
in line 10002 somthing.......i dont remember u can search for it and find it

some problem happened to me and some other users is that the monitor losses the signal while playing, solved by connecting through the DVI port.

OH..by the way,i dont install the driver normally,i FORCE INSTALL THE PCIX VERSION
((select the driver manually)) IMO its more stable((solve some crashes))

OMEGA drivers .... some prob in nfscarbone....

i tryied 7.12 driver ((forced installation)) and 8.1 fix, almost the same.

Hope this was useful .

sorry for the delay, i his post It refers to a 7600GT DDR2 version I'ts 'cause of that It's slower, and I never said that the 7800GS was slower than the 2600XT, simply that the 2600XT is a better choice.
