hi everybody, with a new processor and mobo on the way i've decide its time to go with a crossfire setup, but im in a bind, i can't decide to go with 2 2900 pros (512 ddr3 version) in crossfire or one 3870x2, it would be cheaper to just get another 2900 for around 150ish, but the new 3870x2 is a beautiful card, would it be better to go with the next-gen 3870x2 or 2 2900pros, i've gotten amazing results with my 2900 and i know what to expect. also does anyone know how the 3870x2 performs compared to 2 2900pros in crossfire?

Well, you have to figure that you are going to need a new PSU either way so go with the x2.

I would get the 2900pro. Flash both of your pros to XTs, and be done with it. The 3870x2 is a very long card and hits over 80c load on the stock cooler and as of now there aren't really any aftermarket coolers for it. It's a cheaper option that yields higher performance (probably).

Did you order the E6600 already? I hope not... you could have gotten an E2200, much cheaper AND it has a multiplier of 11, one of the easiest to work with. Once you start cranking up the FSB, the amount of L2 cache matters less and less.

ya i got the e6600 already, got it really cheap, its just a temp processor until the summer when i can afford to go to a much better dual or quad, then im throwing the e6600 in my moms comp

They suck way too much power. Way more than a 3870X2. All it takes is setting the fan higher to alleviate the high temps. With all cards using stock coolers, the X2 is the champ. You also wont have to worry about setting up crossfire. The E6600 is better than the E2200 at stock and OC'd and produces better OC's.
