Google plans on soon selling advertisment space on its web videos. They may put short video advertisments or "commercials" on YouTube and Google Video, for each video you watch. So far it is in the beta stage and they have signed up 20 customers to test the new advertisments. It will similar to AdSence, putting in advertisments that are contextually relevant to what you are watching.

Sure am. They can advertise on the side all they want, i have no problem with it. Even if they are annoying ones with popups and wont let you click on anything but them. I just want to watch the videos in peace...:shadedshu

I think what most of you are forgetting is the huge amounts of bandwidth those videos take. How do you think google is going to pay for that stuff? You have to realize that google is a business, it has to make money to keep investers happy, and on the whole they have been a great company. A great company can't help us if they're broke.

You know, I keep saying Google is going down the same road of irrelevance and financial misfortune Yahoo went, but people keep negating it. I said this weeks ago in that thread about Yahoo and the potential Microsoft buy out: corporations like Google or Yahoo have really one single solid source of income: advertising. They know it, and they know how unpredictable that source of income can be. That is the reason Google has been trying to extend their hooks into every possible realm over the past two years or so. Everything from medical research to alternative energy sources.

They have been dumping ungodly amounts of money into every and any venture they could dig up. Sadly, Yahoo tried something like this during their "Semel" years, 2001-2007, but we all know how that worked out for Yahoo. I must admit though, Google is going about it a bit smarter than Yahoo did. Instead of buying up random properties and tiny corporations and sort of padding their financial image and making up facts as they go, like Yahoo did for years, Google is dumping money on every venture they can find hoping something will get off the ground and prove to be a success. Well, I didn't say it was a smart strategy, but at least smarter than what Yahoo has been doing for half a decade.

So go to the video store or the movie theatre and buy something. You can't complain about this, IT'S A FREE VIDEO portal. Beggers can't be choosers buddy.

Sure it's not the greatest thing in the world, but hey, it's reality.

The only reason I wath stuff on You Tube is because I see no commercials and that's a drift away from TV. The day they come up with ads on 5 min videos, I'll quit YT. Oh we have alternatives like Reever and Break.com, don't we :rockout:?

Youtube is an awesome site because it doesn't force you to watch advertisements. We have all gotten used to how it is set up. You can bet your ass that if MS were to do something like this, you personally would bitch more than anybody on this forum.

There are some good ads to watch too, if only all comapanies had good ads....
One more advantage some of the shows are streched so much that 10 min in Tv world = half an hour in our world.
No one can blame google though, they need to make money. All companies look for profit.

I just don't want to see "Friends Adult Diapers" in the middle of a beach ball video, certainly not "Invest in our mutual funds, get filthy rich" when watching something on Somalia relief operations or worse still "Super Mega Turbo Laxative" in the middle of some grandma's exotic recipe.

Good point. They're making money out of selling ad-space on the videos we make and post but the argument would be that they're hosting our videos for free, forever.

Well, I have to say. If I have to watch a 30 second advert before the vid (that I don't even know if I want to watch.. because youtube vids are usually a hit or miss kind of thing) I will eventually move away from youtubin.... Not a rant just the truth.

Well the thing is that you cant exactly get to watch a short video on 2 girls1cup reaction videos in a movie theater or at a video store 9however you can get porn at the video store but thats not what this is about):laugh::laugh:

Furthermore Why would Google need all that extra money. They are already raking in billions of dollars in revenue each and every year.

Also you shouldnt be reporting Dangle when all he did was call you out on your hate for Microsoft. Which kinda explains why you stand by your thread in your sig about the format wars. You want Microsoft to fail at everything at life.
