I think what most of you are forgetting is the huge amounts of bandwidth those videos take. How do you think google is going to pay for that stuff? You have to realize that google is a business, it has to make money to keep investors happy, and on the whole they have been a great company. A great company can't help us if they're broke.

Exactly what I think

I understand that google needs to make Youtube profitable... but their #1 objective is to grow their user-base. Piss people off they will find something else. My guess is they're trying to hook as many dependent people as they can, then in the end, they're going to F*k em, and there will be nowhere else to turn.

Well the thing is that you cant exactly get to watch a short video on 2 girls1cup reaction videos in a movie theater or at a video store 9however you can get porn at the video store but thats not what this is about):laugh::laugh:

Furthermore Why would Google need all that extra money. They are already raking in billions of dollars in revenue each and every year.

Also you shouldnt be reporting Dangle when all he did was call you out on your hate for Microsoft. Which kinda explains why you stand by your thread in your sig about the format wars. You want Microsoft to fail at everything at life.

Can't watch 2 girls 1 cup on youtube ;) At least I never have!

You have also been reported.

A. He said 2girls1cup reaction videos. Yes you can watch them on YT.

B. The whole sub-topic conversation is uncalled for.

Yeah that's why I've reported the 2, simply because I'm sick of being flamed for false reasoning. These two just jump on me for the fun of it, and I'm tired of it.

Here, let me show you some 'false reasoning':

IT'S A FREE VIDEO portal. Beggers can't be choosers buddy.

Now, does your being a member of a free community such as TPU make you a begger? TPU runs because of us, because it's a community and the 40000 users give their bit to it and it lives on. Same is the case with You Tube. "Google can place ads in the videos because they're the ones hosting them for free" - would not have been "false reasoning".

Indeed it runs by us, but it wouldn't happen without some form of advertising, which is apparent if you stop by the homepage.

Beggers can't be choosers means, one person wants to watch videos that the community is supplying, however the fact is YT IS HOSTING THE VIDEOS. Advertising = money, money = payment for hosting fees.

I'm noticing that some of the posts here are starting to get a bit heated.

Try to remember that this section is for news and not to provoke arguments.

I understand that google needs to make Youtube profitable... but their #1 objective is to grow their user-base.

Google's #1 objective is to make as much money for their shareholders as they reasonably can (to not do so is illegal in the US). Growing their user base may be one of their strategies to ellicit higher profits, but the two do not necessarily equate.

If Google wants to put ads in their videos they have every right to do so, just as we, as consumers of their products and services, have every right to go somewhere else if we are not happy with the decisions they make that affect us.

Personally, I never click through ads on websites, and it is pretty rare that I buy something based on an advertisement. I research what I am looking for and make my purchasing decision based on camparisons of like-features, reliability and durability. Not because some marketting hack thinks he just made the most eye-catching can't-resist ad ever.

Actually, I am more likely to NOT buy something because of offensive or obnoxious advertisements. Especially, as on television, when you are bombarded by the same repeating commercial every 10 minutes.

The commercial is designed to give you a headache so you buy their product. I hate it too.

I see Youtube and "us" as a symbiotic relationship. They give us some hosting space, let us watch a few videos, they get their profit from stock, investors, and a few ads here and there.

With this set in place, Youtube's popularity WILL fall (ever heard of yahoo video? No? That's because they did the same thing that google wants to do to their site) megavideo or whoever will provide a better alternative. Then there is no reason to go to youtube anymore.

This isn't gonna be good for anyone.
