after that i clock my agp bus higher and run 3dmark06

dunno why this is but i get lower scores now 4600-5040 3dmark06
runned it 3 times

and i have my gpu core at 770mhz ram 900mhz

just tested mem at 1ghz in ati tray tools rendering its realy gets hot with stock cooling :S 66c but no artifacting

use driver cleaner first then install the new 8.4's and give'er a go!

You really need to stop fiddlin' with the AGP bus Morgoth. Do as Intel said and use Driver Cleaner to remove all the old 'debris' from the last set of drivers.

Don't worry about OC'ing the card straight away, you'll obviously hit some issues if you do. I suggest you try it completely at stock (leaving the bus alone) and see how that goes for a while.

Damn,
CPU is really holding back the 3Dmark.

TBH I overclocked my CPU 2.6Ghz and increased my 3Dmark from 8965 to 9625 with my 8800GT but it made no difference in gaming.

So at the end of the day no issue.

I tend to jump from nVidia and ATi.

All I can say is nVidia are cheating in some games.
There little textures missing which were there with my X1950pro.
Just unimportant textures which you wouldn't notice if they were there.
Plus the chokes on the 8800GT make a high pitched chiming sound.

A few months time and i think I'll be going back to ATi.
Maybe a 3870.
I won't be buying an X2 until the micro stutter issue is fixed.

Depending on what somes first.
But I think and Xfi-Xtreme Gamer might be the go atm.

Why can't the 3850 drop in price?



£150 is just too much for me right now.

Morgoth, did you run all your tests with the same settings. As in, you X1950 set up was exactly the same when you installed the 3850? You didn't have a higher OC with the 3850 or anything that would alter the scores at all.

Just I really want an apples to apples comparison. I know I won't be able to resist and I highly doubt they'll drop in price anytime soon.

Morgoth : if you had your RAM running faster you would prolly notice a rather sizeable increase in your 3DM06 score, your low RAM clocks are hindering your throughput

have you tried to OC with just 2 stix? you never gave me the info off of your RAM yet either but i will assume that they are hynix D43 which should clock OK with some volts (2.8) but dont expect anything fantasic with the timings, 3/4/4/8 for shure if youre lucky 2.5/3/3/7.

mine used to do 220mhz 2.5/3/3/7 and 230mhz 3/4/4/8 (OCZvalue RAM with the copper HSF's) both using 2.85v

remember the old p4's loved memory bandwith, not so much timings
