feedback on selling pc's

ok this year ive promised myself im going to try and break into the pc building market (not an easy task i know) however if i can show im competant and building and selling a few pc's with profit (which ive done b4) i have a friend who is willing to invest some money to get me up and going properley. i have put a test system on ebay to sell and im looking for feedback, bear in mind it is a budget system but i am going to be putting together around 10 different systems ranging from basic home office to media centres and gaming rigs so no digs at the components it is a basic build.

tell me what you think, what about the layout (basic for now but i will be improving, if someone would like to help with a template that would be awesome), any ideas to improve and will it sell ? i need to make £160 to break even so im aiming at £200 or there abouts.

atm im getting components from etaiilors however if successful and i can get some money for investment ill be looking for trade prices so if you know of anyone that would help.

Your ram is mis-labeled at 20GB (should be 2048mb up top) but other than that the system looks fine. Welcome to the System Vendor's market. If you advertise properly and build quality systems, I think you'll find that the market for small System builders is quite large. Welcome to the "race" and good luck. After a quick look, a couple of suggestions:

1. Take a photo of the PC with your username on (for example) a piece of paper. Many are hesitant to trust new members especially on a big purchase.
2. Emphasise local pickup is avaliable. Again, this adds to the trust level.
3. Make sure you specify that people with less than 3 feedback email you before they bid. If they dont, cancel their bid. Reason is, if they win it and dont pay...ebay dont refund your ebay fees.
4. Fix up the RAM in the Item Specifics. 20GB (damn beaten lol)


I don't know what you should do with warranty though. Perhaps put a sticker where the case is opened? You dont want some newbie opening the case thinking that they know everything then blowing it all up....then you have the headache of replacing it all.

Other than that it doesnt look too bad .

Couple of things, 3.6 ghz....did you get that by multiplying 1.8 by 2 or overclocking it? Because one) a dual core at x ghz is not equal to twice a single core at x ghz. two) if it's overclocked, it's best to say that. Also, there is a difference between pci-x and pci-e, make sure it's changed to pci-e, because I'm pretty sure that motherboard wouldn't have pci-x. Besides those two things it's good.

ok fixed the ram thing (damn ebay only gives choice of 2000mb when we all know a gb is 1024mb )

as for taking a photo, cant yet waiting on parts to arrive, but thats definately somthing i will be doing.

im looking for someone whos good with photoshop (photoshop club anyone?) to come up with a logo and maybe some other templates i can use, at this moment in time i have no funds but if someone was to invest an hour or so im sure i could paypal them £20 for the right designs? sound good.

i know unforunately not a lot of ppl buying budget pc's on ebay do and a lot of the sellers use this method to sell them i am using the XXGhz x2 although i dont agree whiolly with it, if i am tto compete and make some profit im willing to see how it goes, if i were to get complaints then obv ill revise that. doh schoolboy error with pci-x

its an e2160? they are core 2 only with smaller cache iirc

i have put in the auction 2x1.8ghz = 3.6ghz TOTAL processing power , i dont like to do this but so many ppl on ebay do it its hard not too, theyll look at mine and be like wtf i can double that for the same price, the average budget pc buyer isnt all that tech savvy in my experience and would think my chip was half that of a similar one worded differently

anyways that acc is a test acc i do have a good ebay acc with 100% positive feedback although its only buying feedback its still 100% and aim to use this

Pentium dual core/core 2 duo.....who cares. It doesnt have to be technically correct as he is stating the model number as e2160, so he isnt ripping anyone off.

Also, I totally agree with the 3.6Ghz thing. Other sellers BS their way through it so why shouldnt he? He will lose business if people think they are only getting a 1.8Ghz off him and a 3.6 off another seller. As I said, he has put the model number in and has specified it only has 1.8Ghz, so he isnt lying.

I once had a seller that was like "2Ghz Pentium M which is like a 4.5Ghz Pentium 4!!!!" (Not even a dual core...)

Another suggestion, if you're going to be building pcs for customers then be sure to research you parts more thoroughly. It is good to have an extensive background knowledge of the parts that you use to build as well as other parts available on the market.

hiow havent i researched them ? its a core 2 compatible motherboard with a core 2 "based" conroe/dual core 2gb ddr2 667 (not 800 as the mobo wont take 800, hows that for research lol) . i must have built around 50 pc's last year including my own (in specs)and a nice £1000 media centre for my father in law, so i would safley say i have a somewhat extensive background aside one minor error tbh im going for what sells and seems to me a lot of ppl on ebay musnt have an extensive knowledged as half of the e2160's are advertised as core 2 duo they are part of the core 2 family

besdies theres not a choice for pentium dual core on item specifics only pentium D which it is not

ah ok yes to compete it's perfectly fine though, but if someone asks you, I would explain. lol yes pci-x would imply a very good motherboard and cpu (aka server grade). Also, you're fine...ish advertising your cpu as core 2 since its the same architecture, etc. BUT I don't think it would matter loads if you advertised it as a core 2 or a Pentium dual core because alot of consumers are still stuck in the more ghz is better mantra, or I think it's still that way anyways.

oddly enough thats almost true hahaha if it was ~2.6ghz he would be right and i mean whats 600mhz between friends

as fr the 3.6ghz its a standard ploy and it also makes it easy to sell PD chips i would recommend that on the next build cause 3ghz of presler goodness sounds like 6ghz of processing power to me

Also the mobo does it use high quality solid state capasitors?? for longer life this is another sales pitch that sounds good.

unfortunately not a lot i can do about that, i have a family as many ppl on here do, all im trying to do is get my piece of the pie, besides this is only to test the waters, if youve read my first post youll klnow that i may be able to get some investment if i can sell a few at profit so from now until then i have plenty of time to tweak and change things but i think the core 2/pentium argument is a little niggle at best. my aim is to sell maybe 4-5 in the coming weeks and see how that goes if all is well ill be getting a proper website underway and thinking of advertising aswell as selling on ebay. anyways these chips arent hot or power hungry hmmm anyone for a prescott

ok read thru the whole post before you decide to blast me ive already stated on the auction its 2x1.8ghz which is 3.6ghz TOTAL proccessing power which is in effect true its not a 3.6ghz proccessor (as many of the big power sellers on ebay state), there is a damn difference and as ive stated im just testing the waters and seeing what works and what doesnt tbh im beginning to wonder wether to scrap the ebay idea althogether as i can barely break even let alone double my money as if im out to scam ppl, some power sellers are selling similar systems to the one listed for the price it would cost me to build it so i hardly think im going to be doubling my money, im not out too rip ppl off just try and compete a tiny bit . have a look at desktop pc's on ebay and youll find mine is probably worded better than a lot on there and more accurate and honest
