I'm looking to get a laptop in the next few months, and I want to buy a under $1500 USD laptop that is slim, light, and portable for taking to college. I want a good mix between portability and performance. And I want to be able to use it for occasional gaming, so I want at least somesort of discrete graphics. The Dell XPS M1330/M1530 has caught my eye, for meeting all my requirements. Anyone here have one or used one? Let me know your thoughts on them or similar models. Also if anyone has any suggestions for similar laptops from other brands meeting these requirements, let me know.

well my dad is planning to get a 1530/1520 in the next few days but it looked pretty awesome in the shop.

8700M GT graphics & the newer 45nm Intel T9300 cpu. its fairly slim & as a tech nut i can say that id definitely consider it if i had the money. the laptop would be great for MMORPG/RPGs but might struggle a little for FPs's - great little all-rounder.

also being a Dell if you dont like it you can always send it back but if you decide to keep it & it breaks/has problems then Dell have their 24/7 CC hotline - not heard if their CC is actually any good though but if you have any major mojo problems drop us a post at TPU & let us have our input

(yes i secretly work for Dell......)

They are updating the M1530 with the 8700M GT soon? Currently it seems you can only get a 8600M GT on Dell's website.

well....Im currently in Hong Kong & this place tends to get the newest models of everything first. if the 8700M GT isnt already on the US/UK models already then chances are it probably will at a later date

Having a population of millions per square in means that you have to have the best & most upto date stuff instore to get all the customers in (loads of shopping centers/Malls within spitting distance of each other) so prety fierce competition.

The 9500M GS is similar to the 8600M GT. I believe the GT is faster, though not by much. The 9500M GS has a lower power consumption (always nice in a laptop). Either way, they're both great cards as far as MXM cards are concerned.
