MSI Updates GX600 Gaming Laptop

MSI has updated its GX600 gaming laptop, introducing the GX600-Enhanced model. The new notebook features improved hardware, including a 45nm Intel Core 2 Duo T8300 processor at 2.4GHz, up to 3GB DDR2 RAM and a 320GB hard drive. The system still comes equipped with a a GeForce 8600M GT 512MB graphics processor and a 15.4" non-glare LCD, as well as MSI's Turbo Drive Engine, which allows users to increase CPU speed by as much as 20% with the touch of a button.

I heard the 8600M GT was pretty 'bleh' & 'meh' for gaming - 5pennies short of a pound...... they could have upped that at least the 8700M GT since most competitors such as ASUS & DELL have 8700's equiped as standard in their more up to date range of performance/entertainment laptops.

but saying that i suppose having a 8700M GT on a 15.4" screen would be a waste of time - powerful graphics card, tiny screen

i guess it depends on what you're looking for. my friends FZ vaio runs cod4 fine (1280x800), it has just the 8400M GT. that't not settings cranked to high or anything though.

it used to be laptops had dedicated graphics ("gaming laptops") or just onboard graphics, nowadays a gaming laptop is a much looser term since dedicated graphics is much more popular.

i'd consider something with the 8700M to be an enthusiast laptop, whereas as low as the 8400M GT could easily be considered a gaming laptop. i also think it's hard to say the graphics power is wasted on a small screen, since a 1280x800 (720p) screen is so readily available to 15.4" and 1920x1080 (1080p) is easy to get on 17" laptops

i never knew thay made 8400M GTs :S i only heard of the 8400GS & as for your friends laptop - i have to say each to their own since my OCD tends to get the better of me. IMHO - i can live without AA & AF but if i have to turn down the other graphics options to run a game then id rather not play the game at all (OCD is great that way.....makes me anal about everything i do)

I cant agree more. the 8800m gtx is a monkey butt raping chip but at 15.4" this is more a mid range gaming laptop then proper hardcore lets smoke some crack kinda laptop.

Ive seen the older versions of these laptops go for 800-900 UK pounds which really isnt too bad if it can get some decent frames.

but with the 8600M GT id say that this laptop is more of a MMORPG/RPG'ers wet dream more then anything else.

the 8600m GT is actually phenomenal i can play CS:S, TF2, COD:4, UT3, and BF2142 perfectly with moderate settings at 1440x900.

i still wouldn't play Crysis on it though :toast:

i payed $1400USD for my laptop back in November, pretty sweet if you ask me.

The Turbo Drive Engine reminds me of my grandma's packard bell from 1986 or something. It had the power button, reset button, and turbo button! I never quite figured out the point of that thing, why make the computer slow on purpose with the turbo off?
