what intel chipset

Alright so right now i have a 680i sli mobo.
I was wondering which is the best intel chipset, i am guessing the x38 or the g35?

The best is X38 I think for overclocking. P45 will probably be better when it comes out in my opinion. X48 is just worse then the X38 for some reason.

NO!!! you've got it all wrong!!!

P35 is the BEST overclocker to date. x38 and x48 are both great but they can't overclock quite as well as P35.

Have you seen what Maximus' can do with a newer bios? Have a look at Trt's overcloking threads. He's getting way past 500fsb. P35 was the best overclocker up to when people started figuring out X38's and X48's.

true, true... once you figure out all the settings and features x38/x48 are great.

p45 is supposed to be the new king from what i've seen.

I think last week I read something saying overclocking on a p45 chipset can cause data corruption or was that the 790i chipset?

790i.

p45 hasnt been released yet. 790i has been out for a month.

I say that right now the x38 chipset is going. Well, the Max board at lease. I haven't seen much more on the lines of the x38. But, then again, I'm not one to do massive benching ether.. Just to oc to where I feel is a good set number.

I thought P35s are better overclockers due to less heat output (16 pci-e lane as opposed to 32). I've seen P35s do way over 500fsb (MSI P35 Neo2 in pic):

Kinda off topic but does any1 know what nanometre process p35/x38 boards are made with? I would assume its 65nm nut I've heard somewhere that it was 90nm :confused:

X38 has 2 pci "2.0" X16 and P35 only has 1 PCI X16 "1.0"

560fsb x6 doesn't compare to 530fsb x8. :rolleyes:

Its all about price-per-performance.

The great OC'ing P35 can be had for under $100.

The great OCing X38's can be had for double the price.

The X48's can be had for triple the P35's price.

The best of each can be OC'ed to about the same.... whats the one with the best price.

You just answered your own question. :laugh:

PS Single card is P35 ...... Multiple ATi card is X38/X48.

I believe the question was "what is the best Intel chipset"? No money involved. The answer is clearly the X38/X48. I take the meaning of "best" and turn it into performance and available options. The X38/X48 leads them both, while yes, it may share in the performance department with some good P35 boards.
