computer will not shutdown or restart.

hey everyone.
im some what confused atm as i have never encountered a problem like this.
i just installed a new graphics card(asus 3870) and after installing cat8.4 my computer will not shutdown...it just hangs at the shutting down screen? its not frozen because the little circle is still moving or whatever it is any thoughts as to why this might happen? i can manually turn it off with power button but the reset button does not work.

oh i made sure i completely removed my old drivers before installing the new ones.

Check your running processes, something might need to be turned off manually for stupid reasons. Barring anything obvious, start killing things until it turns off. try not to hit system processes though.

i cant get to the task manager it just sits their at the shutting down screen...

i had the same problem after installing 8.4, i end up restarting it manually.

Try clearing page file at shutdown:

1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe). Start > Run > Regedt32.exe > Enter > Follow steps below
2. Change the data value of the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value in the following registry key to a value of 1:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management
If the value does not exist, add the following value:
Right click right white pane > New > DWORD 32-Bit Value > ...
Value Name: ClearPageFileAtShutdown
Value Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1

CAUTION: This dramatically slows down shutdown times but hopefully it solves your problem.
