AXP is now offering the very popular external hard drive docking station for SATA drives. The unit can take a 2.5 or 3.5 inch drives and offers eSATA on top of the usual USB 2.0 connectivity.

Well odds are that you won't be seeing anything with IDE. 1) IDE is dying. 2) IDE is not hot plug & play capable (something you need for these docks).

thanks for the kind words though^^

cheers

Not per se, put a switch on the cable of the dock and they're hotswappable. ie USB is hotswappable, as long as the IDE disk is connected to the controller when the USB cable is connected to the PC it works fine. Hence the switch.
Personally I used those ebay HK cables for these things. They support IDE, laptop IDE thingies and SATA. You can also get them with an adapter that has a Molex connector. They cost about €10 including adapter and shipping.

Yeah I know IDE is dying but USB drives dont have to much longer now that eSata is taking over. I would like a easy way to swap my old IDE HD's without having to invest in a kit that I would have to swap the boot drive.

On the first page you said it only delivers 0.3A. No, that is how much current it draws @ 100-240V. It delivers 2A @ 12V, which is much more than USB.

came across your reply and I'm interested to know more.
I am getting a SATA 2.5" / 3.5" HDD dock but I have a few older ATA/100 drives
from my old desktop 320gb & 200gb that I'd like to wipe and utilise as specific drives
for storage or back up.
I'm trying to find if it is possible to have a simple adaptor that I can put onto the ATA/100 drives so i can then just drop it into the dock that accepts SATA connection.

Your description sounds like you have the setup that I am looking for.

Do you have any pics and more of an explanation about how i do this?
Feel free to PM me for an emil addy to send some pics.

apreciated
