Doesn't sound right, does it!?!

Could be a driver conflict. By what means did you uninstall/clean the NV drivers?

no i didnt , after one poster said he had Nvidia drivers too on same machine, can they interfere with each other even though they are for different hardware technologies?

i have driver sweeper , i will use it too when i wake up and do a fresh installation.

yeah white lotus, its not the one frame thats annoying its all the reviews that say the 4870 beats the 9800, 9800x2 and gives the new GTX200 series a run for their money.

At this rate its not even better than my 8800GT overclocked.

But i wont be too hasty, i will try other hotfix drivers and remove the Nvidia drivers later.

seriously, i think it would be a driver issue, plus these cards are new so expect some issues here and there.

What's the difference when just using stock clocks? I mean something may have gone awry during your OC.

Gotta clean those drivers off. Both cards, though different in tech, will use some of the same things.

As for your temps, they've been no secret. Up the fan speed (RBE and Rivatuner both work methinks), or get an aftermarket cooler. Aftermarket would be my choice, as there's solutions that'll drop temps down to 35-45C.

Everyone knows that NV & ATi drivers don't mix. The 4870 is a beast. Wipe all those drivers ASAP. I don't want to even think about the mess you have growing on that hard drive.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
same thing happened to me man... its the drivers, i ran 3dmark and the first scene was 5 fps lower on average after i switched out the 8800gt.

Oh and also ATI's drivers are action-packed with issues, so get ready to do some tedious installs/reinstalls.

EDIT: check your IQ settings

Doubt installing a different different driver would correct the issue. It's most definitely a conflict with previous Nvidia drivers or perhaps a process hogging the CPU or something.

I really don't see why everyone gets frustrated with silly things like 3D Mark, like if you bought your card to watch a benchmark all day-every day. Your 8800 GT played all your games maxed out why would you invest more money to achieve the same thing with another card. Before you consult your frame rate problem, you should consult your compulsion to need every GPU generation!

You should expect at least 15 FPS in Crysis going from a 8800 GT to an 4870!

but if one 4870 isnt as good as an 8800gt, i might wait a bit longer lol

Edit:

The 4870 would crap all over the 8800 GT look at benchmark above.

what's the status? Did a propper driver install do the trick? I use driver cleaner pro, it seems to do everything i need it to. I was thinking of getting a couple of 4850's, but if one 4870 isnt as good as an 8800gt, i might wait a bit longer lol

O yeah, last time i tried that bluescreens all over the place.

So just uninstall the NV drivers. uninstall the ati drivers too, maybe consider driver cleaner. I my self use jV16 which is cool as long as you know what your deleting.

And reinstall your ATI drivers. GL....

I use driver cleaner, you most definitely want a thorough wipe of your old drivers. You can find it over on Guru3D. Good luck

I don't know what all the fuss about uninstalling ATI drivers is about: i just go to Control panel / Programs and Features / ATI Catalyst Install Manager, click on "Next" button and choose "Express Uninstall ALL ATI software". This is in Viata 64, mind you!

Every time i upgrade my ATI drivers, i do this and it works flawlessly. I imagine nVidia has a similar prog for uninstalling nVidia drivers.

There are problems with the 8.7's not installing/uninstalling correctly. You must manually uninstal Microsoft Visual C++ after uninstalling the 8.7 farce. I battled it for hours last night. Lesson learned: DON'T USE LEAKED ATi BETA DRIVERS! Also, going from a Nvidia card to ATi, or vice/versa you should reinstall Windows. Most driver cleaners don't work properly. The problems you are facing are not the cards fault.

Agree!!!! Same problem here, don't even bother. All games starting to crash after 5min of game play!! :banghead: And no major increase in benchmarks.

What method did you use to uninstall the drivers? The one i described in my earlier post?

I'm not 100% sure but, when you uninstall all of ATI software via that option, Visual C++ also gets uninstalled: i'm not sure about this.

You are right HTC, however the 8.7's are broken and do not uninstall correctly. I know how to uninstall drivers. I never use driver cleaners, however last night I tried two different versions, neither of which worked. I manually deleted and uninstalled/reinstalled and had success, once. However, my computer felt like a dirty whore after these bad drivers and I reinstalled windows anyway.

Visual C++ is still there when you uninstall.

I hope you're not serious. Surely you can just uninstall the old Nvidia drivers and install ATi's. I really can't be arse with reinstall Windows... Tell me it's not so

Glad I didn't do it, I would have chucked the thing out the window :D

Just to figure out how echo75's pc was acting up, I booted up an old AMD X2 PC, driver cleaned it & installed a 8800gt. Then I left the old drivers in there & installed the 4870. Low & behold the thing fecked up, but the scores I got were sick. 3dmk06 was 9880 with a stock 5000+. Vantage was p3869. PC's don't like multiple drivers one bit - my 4870 is performing like a burned up 3850
