First of All Watch this Youtube Video that I made of my Dying Dell...remember the thread... "My Dell is being a Dell"

Can someone tell me why I can't get into Windows but I can get into Ubuntu? :confused:

Does This really mean my motherboard is a total shit dawn-to-death?
Edit: lol I know this is weird...But i want to know why I can access Ubuntu only?

Windows has problems sometimes. Have you tried to reinstall or restore windows? Run a systems diagnostic in the dell bios?

Well if you can get into ubuntu you should be able to pull the files from windows you need from there. Safe mode crashes too?

Make sure you are running the lastest firmware patch. The CPU microcode updates are needed to ensure that memory management works 100% on Windows. Unbuntu might not be so demanding or uses different memory management methods.

Uh...
Reinstalling Windows doesn't delete your files or folders. It just overwrites the OS.

Easy:

1) go in to Ubuntu
2) copy all your wanted files to disc
3) format and re-install.

That's if you're able to do a Repair install, which can be useful in certain situations, like this one. However, program settings won't be retained, such as bookmarks, saved games etc etc.

I'm reformatting my rig tonight as Windows is a grade-A twat!

There's absolutely no need to format a partition before reinstall. I've never had any problems with reinstalled XP nor Vista overwritten on previous install.

It seems like a completely fresh install is best most of the time. Repair can mess a lot of stuff up.

Any reason why you can't just boot into Ubuntu and put it on a thumb drive/DVD/CD/Networked Computer?

Do you have another computer you could put the hard disk in and copy all your files onto? Or a 3.5" Hard Disk Enclosure? They're pretty cheap.

You repair windows w/ windows disc, as it's a dell they should have gave you a couple, if you don't have em any more you can call em and they should send you them again. Are you sure you can't pull the files from ubuntu (look around here, I'm unfamiliar w/ ubuntu, someone else may know more, but make sure you aren't missing something)? Are the two os's on two different drives? And like josh said, if you have another comp you can hook the hdd up to you can try to pull the files there.

Use gparted to repartition the disk drive. Then install windows again on the new partition, giving you access to the old partition.

Dont know why ubuntu cant access the files though.

Good yeah, now that your back in I would back-up and do a completely fresh install to hopefully avoid this problem in the future. Make sure you run disk cleanup and defragment on a fairly regular basis (once every couple weeks at least), or windows can get clogged and not know what to do w/ itself.

So this is a recurring issue, damn dell. Run chkdsk from the run prompt in windows and see if that gives any problems.
