i saw newegg has the 4850's listed, but i want to get a 4870. maybe buy another in a few months for xfire when prices drop a bit.

also maybe be able to sell my 8800gt while it still has a bit of value. altho with craigslist, you will be able to get good prices for a while. 2 days ago i sold a xfx 8800gs for $130, and a month ago sold a x1950pro agp for $150. lol i love nubs, they are my favorite people.

palit guy hooked me up on a rma for my 9600gt. so i wanna show some brand loyalty. i dont want to go into the details of the rma, but if you look in the tread "palit begins selling on newegg" you will see why want to buy palit cards whenever possible. he went above and beyond to take care of me.

Wow, been a while since I was in Nurnberg. I enjoyed MANY 1FCN games flying my red and yellow.

You are correct. I'm not up to speed with the European paln.

Ok, these are really reasonable questions and I can't tell you how sick to death I am never being able to say anything until after they've launched.

I can understand the need for some secrecy when we're still pretty far out from the launch date because you don't want other companies coming in at the last second using your ideas.

But (and forgive me if this counts as trash talking) I don't see any other manufacturer driving any real innovation. Changing the heatsink is great but that's not really designing a better card. So, the way I see it, even if we tell everyone what we're doing ahead of time, no one else is going to be able to do much about it because they can't.

After arguing with a couple execs for the last hour and getting everyone pretty pissed off because I wouldn't shut up, I'm going to compromise a little with them. I won't give you the whole story but I'll give you some actual useful information.

On the ATI-based side of things, we have the reference design 4850 now. Yes, it's the same as all the other 4850s out there. It's a reference design. Great card, especially considering the performance per dollar you spend on it.

But we can do better. We will do better and it will happen in the first week of August. We expect to have our OWN design 4850 rolling off the factory floor in the first week of August. That would put them in NA about 10 days or so later.

It will feature a bitchin heatsink and will be overclocked like you won't believe. For those of you that understood the value of 3-phase power, we're taking that even further. We have a whole new power circuit design that is enabling some really astounding OC action.

Later in August we'll have our OWN design 4870 as well. Same things happening with it as well.

Beyond that (think September) comes the X2.

you know what sucks about the 4800 series, only 2 memory carriers. 4850 = Hynix and Qimonda. 4870 = Qimonda :(

do you know what the Palit 4850 uses?

Will this help reduce power consumption at idle?

Not sure yet, I'll check. Since this is our own design I don't know that we'll be required to stick to that.

never mind. Hynix isn't a carrier. I really hate Qimonda memory it's like putting jumper cables on to a camel's balls and it doesn't move.

Palit is always competitive on pricing against other Authorized NV partners on apples to apples products.

I expect to see a TINY premium like $0-$10. Most likely zero.
