350W Silverstone ST350

As thats what fits into the budget lol.


EDIT - Antec Earthwatts 380W is just squeezing into the budget - how would that be?

If you can snatch up a 425W Enermax then that'd definitely do it. Since it's a media PC you'll probably want it to be quiet, so you need a little extra headroom in there, say about 100-150W so that the PSU doesn't have to cool off too much wasted heat when you're pushing some 1080i content through it with deinterlacing. When PSUs have a heavier load, they produce more waste heat, especially the generic brand PSUs due to a lower efficiency rating, and will actually pull more power at the socket to produce the same power internally then a higher efficiency PSU would. This can make them noisy little bastards once they get a decent load going as you generally need to keep a PSU at about or under the 50 degrees Celsius mark to maintain efficiency.

This is why I recommend an Enermax 425 as they generally have an 80+ efficiency rating and it'd have extra head room, keeping it cool, quiet, and friendlier on the power bill (not by alot though).

Also, I have an uncanny boner for Enermax PSUs.

Also its not a media PC, but it will be plugged into a HDTV occasionally to watch HD tv/movies.

imo, all 3 of those would work.

I am not sure what the differences are between the silverstones, but the anteq basiq is an 80+ unit that should be decent quality - its a good antec PSU in a cheap casing with no extra bling to drive the price up.

So your saying a 350W basiq should do? If so, I can order it right now (JUST ordered a 4850 off the shop, may as well get a psu in the same shipping package)

not sure about the 350. i know its only 30 watts difference to the 380W, but somehow 350W just sounds too low even for a brandname unit.

According to this a 350W should be MORE than enough to power your system (209W (read, recommended PSU wattage) with 4 fans and all the usuals included). Go for the brand name 350W.
