how much you willing to spend man? I thikn a single slot cooler would be hard to find, have you tried better thermal paste? you could WC your card, I seen a deal atnicx where if you buy any WC'ing product you get a full EK 3850 block for 19.99 Canadian.

I figure its getting harder to sell the 3850 blocks because I dont think fit they the 3870 cards or is it the 4850/70 cards? than just get a small pump for like $40 and some tubing.

heres a link, Im not sure if this 3870 Ek block will fit your 3850 card http://www.ncixus.com/products/23668/1003/DB-1/D-Tek Customs/

I meant two slots =] sorry, I need a good two slot cooler.

I dont want to go water, a very good air cooler would be nice.

I found these:

1. XIGMATEK http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233013
2. Thermaltake http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835106112
3. ZALMAN http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118037

Is the Xigmatek any good? I have the CPU cooler and it works VERY good.

Will the Xigmatek fit on my card? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102715

Im not sure how good the Xigmatek will be . As its HDT , and your putting it on an uncovered chip. Seems that only the two middle heatpipes would touch. I would go with a copper plate. Im using the Zalman vf900's and love them. My 4850's idle temps are around 39 with a very warm ambient in my room.

I want to get a new Cooler so I can overclock the card.

Get an Accelero S1 Rev. 2: it's passive but you can buy extra fans for it (there's a special module available): it should lower your temps quite considerably and it's cheap too.

Note: best take the card to the shop where you buy the Accelero because, as i understood it, different manufacturers may change the PCB layout and thus make the VGA cooler NOT 100% compatible and you want to insure your card is 100% compatible before you buy the cooler.

Thanks but the only problem is that the S1 takes up so much space I wouldnt be abled to get a second 3850 for CrossFire if I put a fan on the S1.

hes just saying that they run hot normally and that 59c is nothing to worry about. Im not sure what the max recomemded tempurature is on the 3850 though.

I remember my 1900gt used to run in the 70's stock. but you do want to overclock and I had to upgrade my cooler too :p damm single slot cooolers! they just cut it...

I've got a spare stock 3850 cooler from a Visiontek, it's dual slot. Never bothered using it though, no idea how it performs. Mostly they just depend on the fan speed from what I understand though. Crank the speed up to 60-70%, or whatever is tolerable on your ears, and it should stay quite a bit cooler.

BTW the Xig cooler has 4 pipes and works best on a Nvidia type GPU due to the IHS. On an ATI GPU the Xig only gets two pipes to contact the smaller core!

No 1 has mentioned this cooler yet: http://www.ncixus.com/products/28504/KL-02/Coolink/
I bought 1 back when they first became available at NCIX. Mine is still in the box, to be used on a 4850 or better. Anyways, its build quality looks top notch. The fins are tighter then an AC S1 so it will need dusting more often. The thing I like about it is that with the stock fans it will only take up 1 extra slot. The fans are removable and can take 80mm fans of your choosing. :rockout: How cool is that? Really ******* cool if you ask me. The dual-orb, the AC, the Xigmatek, you need more then just a phillips screwdriver to upgrade the stock fan. The Coolink is CHEAP to. :)

If you want to do CF, then Accelero is NOT the way to go because there aren't, to my knowledge, CF bridges that are long enough for the cards: make sure you can get long enough CF bridges to the cards before you buy the cooler.

If you end up deciding on an Accelero, you can use these fans for it: they're quite cheap.

Do NOT make the mistake i did when looking for a VGA cooler: i was sooo busy looking for a CPU cooler that would fit my case (it has a 250 mm side window fan) and it totally slipped my mind doing the same for the VGA cooler ... DUH ... :banghead:
It still fits my case, in the bottom PCIe slot, but it's too close to the bottom so i can't use the 120 mm fans i bought for it ...

Good luck, with whatever VGA cooler you end up choosing, dude!

The xigmatek cooler is nonetheless very good....

You will be able to CF with the AcceleroS1, you just need to be a bit creative; bend the sides of the fins so that the bridge(s) can fit through the fins.

Won't that end up damaging the bridges, over time, with the heat?

Dont get that xigmatek and a ATi card. Only two out of four pipes will make contact with the small core. I would get a Zalman VF900, I love mine and its running my hot ass 4850 at 29c idle and 48c load at 850mhz.
