As the title says.

I built this computer because I wanted the best I could get and for benching bragging rights and playing most of today's games. Granted my system isnt all that high end considering most around here but its still higher up on the latter than most. But that shit is fading from me fast. I have a plethora of games and im just sick of playing them all. Ive done it day in and day out for so many years now that the games just dont have the replayability anymore. And when a new game does come out, I beat it and lose total interest.

My rig can play the latest and greatest games out there at 1680x1050 and I even ran crysis on Very High (i think) with ~30FPS.

I am interested in the new Starcraft game coming out, DoW2, and Crysis Warhead. Im think im forgetting some.

Anyway, convince me not to part my rig.

why the hell would you want to part that beast out?!
If you did what would be the next step? It' not like you can buy anything nicer at a reasonable price.

I often am depressed and cant play any games because of that BUT i dont ever thought about selling my rig and getting a slower computer cause i think i am a geek and need a fast machine even when i dont use its full potential all the time.. So rethink you might want to play later sometime..

thats what i thought, just needs a quad core at some point too.

edit - ah it is a quad lol, not needing to upgrade that then . . .

8GB isnt benificial to me and whats the point of getting another gfx card if im getting bored of my games now? I bought a 780i board a couple months ago and sold it which in turn I got my P45. Whats been my year goal was to squeeze every bit of performance out of this Xeon on air as much as I can and I think I have achieved that. I can get 3.8GHz stable at 1.4v. I changed CPU coolers since then to a Scythe Infinity and at stock speeds I idle at ~20*C where it used to be 30-35. (and the Infinity doesnt have a fan on the cooler)

why the hell would you want to part that beast out?!

Seems like a waste currently. It sits idle most times or off. (and by idle I mean browsing and listening to music like now) Next step would be a downgrade unfortunately. Maybe an E7200 or E8400. Not necessarily looking for something nicer. Though, I could deal with a bigger monitor. :D

Ive thought that too, but its seeming more and more unlikely until years start passing by. By the time Ill want to play Crysis again, we'll probably have tech that will make it run with 100+FPS at max settings and the graphics will be considered shit. Then again, it could still struggle with 30FPS.

thats what i thought, just needs a quad core at some point too.

I heard Crysis Warhead is going to be easier on the system than Crysis 1. just hopefully we dont pay in graphics when its done.

Dont sell the comp, Ive had mine for almost a year and its still strong. Crysis Warhead will be out soon. Dont you like online FPS? how about Company of Heroes?

All of our rigs are a waste, we all just sit around and browse pr0n while torrenting music 85% of the time. You're not alone. If the power consumption gets to you do what I do, downclock your CPU to 1ghz when you're not gaming or benching (I don't know if your board has multiple bios settings, but I have eight user defined, gotta love giga)
If you just plan on sitting around listening to music and downloading pr0n then you can get a cheap P3 rig for probably under $100

In a state of flux...
don't waste your time parting it out, as it'll only cost you money in 6 months time when your bored of not playing games and want to kill some n00bs to buy a system that is decent again and can be used to download vast amounts of p0rn lol

keep it like i do with all my rigs and one day (no matter how long it is) you'll be happy you did :toast:

I would like to be able to talk you out of it, but I just did the same thing. See, I had a good processor, great cooling, a decent video card and a decent mobo. I originally bought the CPU and cooling to compete for records and such, but I have lost my taste for it. I decided to get a good motherboard, a good graphics card, good air cooling, and a crappy CPU that I can beat the snot out of.

This way, I can still play my games, and I am future proof for when the day comes that I need more power.

OOhh Crash your thinking wrong well unless your sick of computers, selling it is more likely not the way.

What i did is to put money else were like in to a cool bike and camera and then just go out do 20-30 miles riding taking pics and stuff. Maybe if you can further your education as ya have a good comp that do all that for you.

Life don't have to be all about a computer and thinking you have come to this point so root your thought into doing other stuff.

My bike and camera took frigging ages to get but glad i did as it gives me other stuff to do out side.

Crash, I have been in the same mood as you recently. I've contemplated selling off most of my rigs and just building on cheap rig, that can still handle some gaming from time to time. I definitely know what you are talking about when you say having a major gaming rig is kind of a waste when it sits idle 90% of the time.

I'm feeling ya. I've got a pretty "low-end" computer and I still think it's almost too much for my needs. If you're feeling like selling, go ahead and part it out. With Nehalem coming around, now would be the best time to get the most value out of your system. At some point you'll probably want to get back in the game, and by that time there will be plenty of new toys to play with.

sell it and buy a motorcycle much more fun to mod. and it doesn't become a worthless pile after a couple years. pc=worst investment for the long haul financially, well 3rd worst behind kids and a wife. but witha wife you don't throw her away after a couple years or sell her off in pieces. (well I hope you dont)

Your current setup is more than ready for all those upcoming games. I'd only start to worry about game perfomance in 2010 or so.

Save your $$ on something better like paying off car, loans or mortgage!

Not married, no kids, no g/f, had a bike a few years ago, sold that, cant really do much with riding bikes around here especially with all the road construction going on. Its a danger zone to say the least.

I dont make enough money at my job to get my own car let alone a motorcycle. I drive my mom's 06 Chevy Impala. College loans, car insurance, and cell bill take about 95% of my money. The rest I say fuck it and it goes towards some food/games/computer parts that I need such as hard drives.

I really need a new job, but its tough to find one where I live. Just ask newtekie. :) I make more than minimum wage (i think it just went up so im not sure) which is $7.50 an hr and an extra buck on Sundays. If I cant find a place that pays a bit more than that, then its just not financially worth it.

Im actually looking into WoW. Even though I tried the 10-day trial and didnt really like it, was debating throwing down $20 to try and get into it for the long haul because once I beat Crysis Warhead im not going to want to play it again.

As for selling the PSU and case, Id end up having to keep the case because 1) i like it and 2) i dont have the box for it anymore.

dont spend any more on pc parts just get a few games or a blu Ray player and watch blu ray movies on that pc

a few good games that i see as re playable are management games/RTS and multiplayer games like Football manager 2008(worldwide soccer manager 2008 in the US) games like Sim City 4, the new total war games is coming out, online games like unreal tournament 3 or combat arms the FREE game TPU users play, there is that warhammer online MMO coming out, Civilization 4 is really replayable, mass effect, i got back into oblivon when i got a lot of mods, gta 4 is coming out, counter strike source and team fortress 2, still hundereds of replayable games

i have a passion for computers and games too, i like playing games and if i lose interest in a game an old game will call me and say "hey play me you son of a bitch you used to love me"

i use my pc for everything tho from Music and movies to office stuff

My rig can play the latest and greatest games out there at 1680x1050 and I even ran crysis on Very High (i think) with ~30FPS.

Don't want to bash, but I don't think it can play Crysis at the rez and settings at 30fps...the GTX280 and 4870X2 both struggle to do that. It was probably DX9 very high or something.

Never got into Mass Effect. Not one for Civilization or Oblivion either. Same goes for Sim City or even the Sims. GTA 4 I have on 360 but the second I beat that i lost total interest. The game is pointless to play because the car physics are worthless. You cant e-brake for shit like you can in say San Andreas. Driving is broken IMHO. You cant buy safehouses like you could in previous versions and when you go to the hospital you still retain your weapons so the money system is pointless. Story line and graphics are great and groundbreaking for Rockstar and the GTA franchise.

Im not at all sure if im going to like the warhammer MMO. Ill have to do a trial if one comes out.

Notice I said "I think". :) I know it was the 64-bit DX10 version. Its been a while and Id have to play it to find out.
