Nvidia to cut partners

The biggest issue for all Nvidia partners is that there are way too many partners who want to feed off Nvidia's mother ship.

Most of the products on market are the same with some minor differences and Nvidia partners are simply trying to get the prices down to be able to sell their products and make some money. This creates a mess and price wars, making most of the people really unhappy. Nvidia has told to several people in the US that this will have to change and that Nvidia plans to cut off some smaller partners.

They didn't want to go in details on who will have to go, but some of partners sure will, and if this happens it might be a little bit easier to breath. In Europe Nvidia has more than 20 partners and since all the cards from 9800 and above are produced by Nvidia, its getting tough to make any money. The sticker, box and price are the determination points and sometimes it’s the frequency and a fancy new cooler, the rest under the hood is always the same for everyone.

Let’s hope for the sake of the market, that this will happen sooner rather than later.

nVidia just shooting themselves in the foot. ATi cards will drop in price and NV cards will go up.
Fucking corporate hogs.

I think the partners keep competition better, because each partner drives down prices of the others.

And that's what the NV boys are trying to stop.

Exactly, unfortunately this sounds like some of the better Nvidia card makers will lose their lines though... Palit for instance :(

I hope that EVGA, Palit and XFX are the ones that stick around the longest. They seem to make the best cards.

I have bad luck with XFX lower line of cards, 8400/8500s... But EVGA's and Palits... omg, I love them to death.

The only problems I've ever had with any of my XFX cards have been at my own fault, and XFX has always been happy fix things for me.
They earned me as a customer as long as I stay with NV.

But if they do that, everyone will buy ATI cause it is cheaper.

Kinda crappy and a stupid move by Nvidia, especially with ATI making a comeback and having such cheap prices.

It's probably just some stupid panic move by NV because of the ATI growth.

I think partners who make both ATI/NVIDIA boards will be cut out.

I guess they want to make their UMAP BS easier to enforce...but if that does drive up prices, then it would be a pointless blow to the gut.

actully this is a smart move, way to many partners all with the same card actully. Im quite happy with this moves, one it allows Nvidia to cut off those partners who are unreliable and provide poor customer support. Lowers the confusion over branding, and hopefully can actully help prices if you think about it, Nvidia won't have to make so many 9800's and GTX2x0's as they used to, and maybe the cost can come down due to overstock.

Exactly.

And cutting out a few partners is not going to cause massive fluxuation in prices in either direction.

EVGA and XFX are still going to price their junk way too high, and Palit and Gainward will price there's low, with everyone else in between.

But with less partners to have to distribute to, Nvidia can cut costs, especially with DOA related issues.

This is FUD. First off, they say in the article that only nVidia makes the cards from the 9800 up. that's completely not true. Ask Palit. ;)

And secondly, consider the source people. I don't trust a single word out of their mouths until it's confirmed true elsewhere. Fudzilla earned their name.

Well at first Nvidia did make the 9800GTX, they make every card first and then the add in board partners design there own

That's bad news...usually the more partners..the more competition..which translates in better prices.

I really don't think this will cause prices to go up. The competition will still be there, so the prices will still be low. The problem is that nVidia is having a hard time supplying everyone with cards since they make them all and just ship them to the partners for packaging.

Palit should stick around for a while since they don't use reference boards, they make their own.
