looking for a cheap liquid cooling solution

hi
im looking into buying a liquid cooling system for my cpu and northbridge because id really like to keep my q6600 at 3.6ghz with lower temps than 50*C

i dont want anything too expensive
could someone give me some help?

50c idle or load?

what cooler have you got on it at the moment? also i wouldnt suggest going for "cheap" watercooling, as youll find it probably wont cool much better than a half decent air cooler

also what volts do you have running through it ?

50 idle
right now i have an arctic cooling freezer 7 pro

well i shouldnt say cheap because i have no idea what the price range for liquid cooling is

Agree, something like my Xigmatek S1283 will do a better job than a cheap WC kit. Either custom built decent WC or air is your best option.

And yeah, load or idle? (I'm thinking idle, which is not good), are you running on the stock cooler?

have you reseated it lately/reapplied thermal paste, and generally cleaned the inside of dust etc, can help wonders with cooling, or you could go for a zigmatek or scythe cooler, the freezer 7's are good but there are better ones out there these days without the ned for watercooling.

btw what does it run at load, and whats your room temp like? i find it hard to believe your idling at 50c with a freezer 7 pro and 7x case fans, do you have them setup to ensure your not getting negative airflow?

My Xigmatek cost me £21 + del. And pickup some AC MX2 thermal paste hile your at it. I get 60*C max load temps on the cores at 3.4Ghz during OCCT 100% stress test.

If you are looking for something with good performance and easy to setup you can't go wrong with the Swiftech H2O-220 kits. I have this kit and have the CPU, graphics card, and Northbridge on it with no issues. Keeps my OC E8400 (3.88GHz) at 47C load. About to get a Q6600 on it and will see what kind of load temps I can get with that.

I have same situation. 50 C idle for my E8400@ 4 GHz with AC7 Pro. I had spent almost 3 days to find cheap wc system, found too , but they r not performing well. so instead of wc , i have decied to get
OCZ Vendetta 2. it is providing cooling better than a cheap wc systems.

I have read many reviews about Vendetta 2 and found that it is very good air cooler.

OR you can try out new "OCZ Gladiator Max CPU Cooler" came out few days ago.

Build your own watercooling loop. Its pointless to buy kits....for the same reason its pointless to buy a dell.

You will get a much better cooling solution, that is much easier to expand when you want it to. You get to choose the parts, quaility, and cost. You may pay a little more but in the end you will save money.

Absolutely 100% true. Building your own WC loop might start at around $300 if you care about how long you intend to run the PC. A common problem with WC is how to prevent the liquid temps coming out of your radiator, the source of the problem, from rising in tandem with operating time.

Honest I don't believe there is a need to WC a CPU unless the intention is a crazy OC and a burned out/ravaged CPU once a yearly quarter.

Whoa ZenZim

That's a good budget setup (3/8", res w/rad, and pump in cpu WB). I don't think a 120mm fan rad will cool the water quickly enough unless the rad is separate from the chassis exhause. Is that why you also suggest so much tubing?

haha, no, but doesnt hurt to get extra on a first build, mistakes can happen...and at .38 cents a foot it's cheap.

I would mount the radiator external to the case

Well I "just" installed the Q6600 in my rig. Applied MX2 thermal compound. Everything is at default and ran small FFT's on the cores for max heat. Temps look pretty reasonable.

Next step is some quick benches and then start cranking things

Maybe...I don't see anything there that is much better though. Infact the upgrade to the AquaExtreme is the Swiftech Apogee..And the upgrade to the HWlabs Black ICE is the Swiftech MCR120.

So close to the same performance although my kit performs better....however, you do get a flow gauge with the kit though.

Im a huge fan of swiftech.
