According to AustinComputers in Austrailia, it looks like Nvidia is rolling out its 55nm GTX 280 (supposedly called GTX 280+) this month. Additionally, a GTX 350 is expected within the close of the year, featuring 2GB of GDDR5 on the same 512-bit bus. If this product page is correct, this new card could easily be a beast!

I stumbled upon a Hardspell article written July 18, 2008 that speaks of a GTX 350 engineering sample with the same specs as listed above:

HardSpell.com - NVIDIA GTX 350 ES version is ready and the specs revealed?!

We got to know the related news but we are not so sure about this:

NVIDIA GTX 350
GT300 core
55nm technology
576mm
512bit
DDR5 2GB memory, doubled GTX280
480SP doubled GTX280
Grating operation units are 64 the same with GTX280
216G bandwidth
Default 830/2075/3360MHZ
Pixel filling 36.3G pixels/s
Texture filling 84.4Gpixels/s
Cannot support D10.1 .10.0/SM4.0

Interesting, we'll have to see how this plays out..that GTX 350 could be one mean mutha of a card!

nice, but I doubt 2GB is going to do anything, if its the same architecture .

2gb for what ?

a waste of money imo, 1gb ok i can see the point but nowhere near 2gb video memory is going to be used for a while, and they need to do more than just add an extra 1gb of ram, although i see its gddr5, any other details on shaders/rops gpu clock etc ? or is it just a gtx280 with a big e penis for ram ?

First of all I don't think it will be released as soon as in 2008.

About 2 gb memory, as performance goes up, memory requirements get higher too. A higher performer card would be used for higher settings (AA/AF) and there memory is closely tied to performance, the higher the AA levels, the higher the requirements. You have to look no further than HD4870 to see that at least 1GB does help increasing performance on that card. And G300 has the potential to be MUCH MUCH faster than RV770, it could be much more than twice as fast. Let's see what has inproved from G200:

- 40nm

- GDDR5

Only those two factors mean a lot. We know Nvidia will continue making big chips, so probably they will mantain a similar die size (400-600 mm^2). At 40nm that means they can put almost 2x the amount of transistors in there. Let's be conservative, or realistic if you want, and say only a 50% increase in transistor count. Well, since ROP and memory controler will continue being the same, only SP/TMU number will be increased. AND if you look at GT200 die shots almost half the chip is ROP/MC and other half is SP/TMU clusters. Conclusion a 50% transistor count increase means 100% increase in computing power, that being conservative with the transistor count increase...

40nm also means higher clocks. IMO around or slightly above 700Mhz is realistic, so add that 15-20% performance increase. We are at 2.2x the performance of a GTX280 right now.

After taking into account those posibilities are you sure that 2GB will not be used in such a card?

OK, let's assume it does not require as much for gaming. We have to still factor in CUDA and PhysX and those WILL REQUIRE as much memory as possible. If any intense PhysX thread is working at the same time as the game, more memory will always help. TESLA cards ALREADY come with more memory because it is required. If they want CUDA to become mainstream they have to assure it will work as fast as possible. IMHO 2gb is more than justified for next gen cards and price shouldn't be very high if the HD4870X2 comes with it.

The GTX 350 is likely two GTX 280's on one card, so you still only net 1 GB even if the spec says 2 GB. That's how they are scaling to 480 SP so fast.
