3870 or 8800GT for around $100. Just make sure you get your new PSU first.

Yeah, you need to define cheap. An 8800GS, 8800GT, or HD3870.

Also need to define "run." An 8600gt will run Crysis, but it won't look that good (comparatively speaking). Resolution your on plays a factor, as does your pickiness for smoothness. My gts does very high at most for me comfortably at 1680x1050, but others may not tolerate it as it dips from time to time, and isn't over 30fps.

I think the "cheapest" gpu that will run crysis nicely would be a 8800GS(med-high) once you overclock them, they're going for like 70 dollars now at tigerdirect

but an hd3850 can run it nicely too for about the same price . . . used

but an 8800GT would prob be the "cheapest" to run it smoothly

in no way is the 3870 a crysis gaming card, i guess some people forgot the Nv bias the crytek engine had at that time?
you need 8xxx series + 3870x2 + if you want your gameplay to be worth a damn.

This is even true with Warhead as well, however there are people out there playing Crysis with single 3870's just fine.

i played crysis a few months ago on a single overclocked hd3850 and it ran fine on medium@1280

but an 8800 card would be best for that game on a budget

good deal on a 9800GT. its fairly cheap.

http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=72696

if its not cheap enough a 9600GSO or 9600GT would do ok at modest resolutions and / or with some settings adjusted

heck you can run crysis all day long on a lot of cards with some settings slammed to medium. but generally "high" settings takes a bit more umph

If you are going to spend >$100 on a video card just for one $39.99 game, you're nuts! Buy a video card that does well on other stuff too - unless you only plan only playing games optimized for NV hardware.

Edit: Oops... flame war coming.

ATI and Nvidia GPU's are very competitive. Lets not show off fanboy-ism.

In the $100 range Nvidia takes the crown IMO. In the $150 ATi takes the crown IMO. $200-$250 is tied IMO. $320-$380 range is Nvidia IMO. The best offerings over that are ATi territory IMO with the 4870x2.

Its all about what your budget is. $100 range and $150 range are the most important. Its mainstream IMO.

This is all my opinion. I enjoy both companies offerings. ;)
