It is slightly more effective due to the air not requiring a 90° turn after exiting the fan. I have the GV-R587UD which has a similar setup and I have equal amounts hot air exhaust from the front and rear of my case now. Which is a bit odd as GPU coolers go, but it works.

I found that properly cooling this card is a bit different from other cards. The inclined design really wants to see a vented rear panel, and a fan-less and unobstructed front panel. This is below the card. I moved my fans around (Antec 300) so now all my intake is on the side panel, my CPU...
