Hi there, I am looking to buy an external USB HDD and I am torn between a 2.5" and 3.5" model. The usage is simply going to be attached to my Blu Ray player in order to play media files, however I am not certain which to go for. In my mind, this is how each stacks up; 2.5" + lower power...

Those power consumption figures are absolutely horrible. So much for VGA firms going for more efficient, power saving architectures. It looks liek the progress stopped with the 1070 / 1080 series on that front.

The cooler I bought had those sticky spongy things to attach to the RAM and to the VRMs etc. Is it worth getting aluminum ones to replace them or do the sponge ones work just as good? Also, is there any problem with attaching one single aluminum heatsink over two VRMs? Its not going to short...

I think I know the answer to this before I even ask it, but do Thermalright still produce VGA coolers? It seems like all the ones on their website or on sale are for cards which are generations old...?

I just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. In the end I weighed up all the options and plumped for the Arctic Cooling Accellero. Temps were about 74C with the default cooler at default fan speeds. With the Arctic and a small fan speed increase its around 47C, and its barely audible.

Hi, I am always a little unsure when doing a new build which drivers I really need in order for the system to run to its fullest. At the same time I am cautious about adding more apps and drivers than nessesary since I don't want a bloated system. Which drivers are actually essential for this...

Some fans spin up, some didn’t, oddly. The cpu fan spun, but the fan connected to the CHA_FAN_1 connector didn’t.

Thanks for all the replies. So I took the thing apart tonight, took out the cmos batt, unplugged everything except the mobo power, plugged the socket into the wall, powered up and the same story. So I think the Asus board is dead, which is a shame as it’s only maybe 4 years old, never bothered...

Thanks for the reply, however as I mentioned in the OP I’ve already bought a new PSU and it’s exactly the same, sadly...

Oh yea, I took it out because I thought it was the PSU failing. It does the same with it plugged in anyway.
