    Overheating 4850

Have you tried turning the fan speed up via Rivatuner?

    Overheating 4850

Do those fans really spin 8,000+ rpm. That would be like a jet engine in your case! Is the fan possibly messing up or something? I had a card get really hot like that once. A wire had got caught in the blades and locked it down.

    New 5770 heatsinks

Geez no need to attack me I'm just offering ideas. People always want the latest and greatest. If you want something as powerful as a 5850 that will only require a single slot solution your going to have to wait until the next generation, or possibly the one after that. If you want it now...

    New 5770 heatsinks

They can make chips that aren't mini space heaters, but they won't be as fast, or as powerful as they are now. To do it now would probably leave you with something between a 3870 , and a 4850. If you want the latest and greatest, your going to have to lose that extra slot, or get water cooling.

    New 5770 heatsinks

I bought it for the free shipping. When I bought it, it was the same price as the others with this cooler. I usually buy Sapphire. Also I meant the price for same cooling capacity as the other fan. I wasn't being brand specific. Right now they are all the same anyway, no matter the brand.

    New 5770 heatsinks

I guess I should have said it was only audible at 100%, otherwise it's like others have said. I can't hear it over my other fans. I also got these temps with a closed case, if that makes a difference. My max core speed seems to be 1,025Mhz. I tried 1,050Mhz and it was wouldn't even pass the CCC...

    New 5770 heatsinks

I bought an Asus 5770 with this cooler. My idle temps are in the mid-high 30's. My max temp was 60 C while playing the Left 4 Dead 2 demo. Playing around in the Heaven Benchmark for a while in DX 11 put it up to 75 C I haven't really tried to max out the core. So far I've only bumped the core...

KNOCKOUT: 3850 AGP vs. 3850 PCIe

I did this with a Q6600. My board wouldn't allow me to overclock any higher. I did this with an E6600 at 2.655Ghz. The card was clocked at 800MHz IIRC.

    4870 replacement fan?

My friend recently bought a Powercolor 4870 1gb. When he installed it he left a wire too close to the fan. It hit the fan and broke off a blade. It seems to be okay, and he doesn't have any heat issues, but the fan is vibrating and he wants to replace it. Are there any places that sell...

    4850 CF or 4890 ???

Oh yes, I agree, 1GB is way more future proof. I have GTA IV and it won't let you play the game maxed regardless of your other specs without a gig of ram. That's why I recommended he wait and get a 5850, or 5870 later in the thread.:)

    4850 CF or 4890 ???

Save up and wait for the 5870. IMHO it'd be a waste of money to buy a 4890 with those just around the corner. Heck you could wait for the 5800's just to get the price drop if your dead set on the 4890.

    4850 CF or 4890 ???

512MB is fine at that resolution, especially if it's Crossfired 4850's. I used to play Crysis With the very high XP hack just fine at 1600x1200 (which is higher) on a single 4850 512. I didn't use AA or AF though, in fact I never do. I prefer smoothness of frame rate over smoothness of lines in...

    4850 CF or 4890 ???

No it's not, but it is a good indicator when comparing two cards. I only used it because I was trying to show a quick comparison between the two. If you play games at resolutions higher than 1600x1200 you need 1GB of memory for some games. However, if you game below that 512MB is still...

    4850 CF or 4890 ???

At 3dmark06's default resolution that doesn't matter. Also 512MB memory on 4850's is faster than the 1GB IIRC. I went ahead and put my 4890 in my CF system. Here are my results. System Specs: AMD PII 720 X3 BE OC @ 3.3GHz 2GB DDR2 1066 750GB HDD XP x64 Here is the CF 4850's at stock clocks...

    4850 CF or 4890 ???

Here is my 4850 CF machine. Here is my 4890 machine. I know one is a dual core and the other is a tri-core, but I have my core 2 clocked 350mhz higher. Also my 4850s are at stock clocks, while I have my 4890 OC'd by 75MHz. I can max out ATI overdrive for 700mhz each on my 4850's but I can't...
