PSA: Intel I226-V 2.5GbE on Raptor Lake Motherboards Has a Connection Drop Issue: No Fix Available

Power consumption is a big deal and 10G ethernet is a thirsty link rate. I intend to upgrade to 2.5gbe and not look higher until there is a significant need.

Singapore Introduces Strict Security Requirements for New Home Routers

Large manufacturers are very much capable of providing better software support on their routers. I suspect they will offer only a handful of routers for sale in these markets and support them appropriately.

MSI Subsidiary Starlit Partner Sold RTX 30-Series Cards Over MSRP; Company Investigates

I have no problem with MSI cashing in on the incredibly high demand for these cards. Why not? All the power to them.

    Intel's 10 nm-Geared Fab 42 Enters Operational Status

The scale of these production facilities is staggering.

Microsoft Introduces Surface Laptop Go, New Updates to Surface Pro X and New Accessories

I appreciate keeping the BOM low but 4GB of RAM and 64GB of eMMC storage is a hard compromise for a late 2020 laptop, regardless of MSRP. This might be Microsoft strengthening margins on products popular with institutional purchasers. Really not sure.

China Focuses on 3rd Generation Semiconductors in Aim for Self-Sufficiency

    Fascinating stuff thanks for that.

RTX 3080 Crash to Desktop Problems Likely Connected to AIB-Designed Capacitor Choice

It's too bad there isn't an OEM that uses only premium parts. I'd be happy to pay for a higher quality product (rather than a higher marketing budget) if such an option existed.

China Focuses on 3rd Generation Semiconductors in Aim for Self-Sufficiency

Don't underestimate the Chinese. They have a near stranglehold on electronic supply chains (by their own doing) and are in a position to leverage that to gain traction in the CPU/SOC market. You don't need top performance to have a viable product. A product 15% slower with a price tag of 40%...

Samsung Delivers Next-Level SSD Performance with 980 PRO

The Samsung Pro-series of SSDs is/was the most premium consumer SSDs in existence. They are the Ferrari of SSDs, using the more expensive MLC, and the MSRP reflects that status. MLC NAND was part of what made the Pro series so unique and attractive. MLC is also expensive but it helped justify...

AMD "Vermeer" Zen 3 Processors Branded Under Ryzen 5000 Series?

I suspect the chiplet design provides much greater flexibility in IO development. Remember Intel HEDT? Intel would often develop bleeding edge new IO tech paired with well-known last-gen architectures and release as HEDT processors. Last gen architectures were used because trying to pair new...

AMD "Vermeer" Zen 3 Processors Branded Under Ryzen 5000 Series?

I doubt AMD makes much from their 3600, but I'm sure they do make money on the 3700/3800 as it's the same cost to produce at a much higher price.

Samsung Delivers Next-Level SSD Performance with 980 PRO

TLC is good enough but in this case you're paying Ferrari prices for a BMW product. People are allowed to want MLC for such a huge price premium.

AMD "Vermeer" Zen 3 Processors Branded Under Ryzen 5000 Series?

I think you're right but AMD will want to protect the higher margin high-performance products by creating a meaningful performance delta.

Intel DG2 Discrete Xe Graphics Block Diagram Surfaces

To ensure Intel is relevant to developers producing AAA titles it needs meaningful market share in the dGPU space. To gain market share from nothing they need to position their products aggressively. I suspect Intel's big push will be pairing Intel laptops with an Intel dGPU and offering cost...

GeForce RTX 3080 Rips and Tears Through DOOM Eternal at 4K, Over 100 FPS

No modern engines use un-optimized textures. I think where things vary is how the engine stores textures in VRAM that aren't immediately in use. The fast storage systems in the next gen consoles guarantees fast access and as such only textures immediately in use need to be loaded, vastly...
