    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

Hmmm . . . did you ever install the drivers off the installation CD? Or did you only use the most recent version available via Creative's site? If so, I'd recommend fully cleaning all the drivers and software off, running DS in safe mode and all that, then re-installing all drivers and...

It was a good call going red

I wouldn't exaclty call it stupid - it's simply a matter of personal preference. After spending the $400-$500 on a VooDoo years ago (the equivalent of today's $800-$900), then having nVidia buy out 3DFX and completely dropping support of the cards only a few months later (and refuse to release...

MW3 Console Players Have Crashtastic Time Of It

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

IIRC, this is the way to go for both installing and uninstalling: Go to C:\program files\creative\sound blaster x-fi\program\setup.exe (if running x64, use program files (x86)) That's the "back-door" installer. you can use it to uninstall/install the drivers. Select the box that reads...

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

Yeah - from what I've seen over the years, their hardware is the only thing decent they offer . . . everything else isn't worth the bother. It's a shame, really - Creative didn't used to be like this. It's a big reason why I try to recommend Auzen's hardware more often now, they make use of...

Guide: Understanding audio specifications and hardware

Thanks, man - I figured this would be a good sticky to have in this sub . . . I think there was one other I had discussed with Mussels after this sub was opened (before any mods were selected to corral the cattle here), but can't remember it off the top of my head :p

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

There's another way to "hard" install the drivers . . . I'll look into it, as I can't remember how (it's been years since I've had to), but it might help if you run into headaches later on.

    Overclock Q6600

To run 450, you might have to adjust your DRAM freq and/or timings down a bit. The Q6600 likes to get a little squirelly with excessive BUS speeds. I'd start by stepping up the BUS slowly, though - try 405 or 410 with a x9 multi and see if it'll POST, and how it handles under benching. If...

It was a good call going red

Nice to see we have a convert :p S'all good though, man - I've stuck it out with ATI for years, but only because I harbor a long-running grudge against nVidia. I'm not opposed to using their hardware or recommending it, but I won't spend my money on it . . . no after how they screwed us 3DFX...

Does having speedstep or C1E enabled deduct from gaming performance?

It might be more common knowledge if board manufacturers would actually put a decent description in the manuals of what specifically BIOS settings do . . . instead of leaving it to us OCers to figure it out ourselves :p

Does having speedstep or C1E enabled deduct from gaming performance?

Correct. It's even harder to see with quads. I have run into the rare instance, though, when having C1E enabled led to a SYS crash - but these were usually with very heavy CPU tasks, where the application went into a brief idle mode, and then threw a massive load of work back at the CPU...

MW3 Console Players Have Crashtastic Time Of It

By all means - it'd at least feel more comfortable with 3 people sitting in the dark . . . I don't recall any instance of a Gru managing to eat 3 people at once . . . :toast:

    X-Fi Support Syndicate & Owner's Clubhouse

Sorry to hear of your troubles, man . . . but what you're describing is exactly one of the reasons I started this thread ages ago. Creative's support is mental. Thei un-installation rarely works correctly, also . . . many times I've found the only way to be certain is to boot in safe mode...

MW3 Console Players Have Crashtastic Time Of It

. . . and that's where the trouble lies . . . the PC has always been better (even going back to the Amiga and C64 vs NES days), at least in terms of hardware capability and all. We've caught up with consoles in terms of ease of use and input controls . . . . . . there's just a lot of myth...
