You could look at it in one of two ways. 1) AMD decided to disable this to protect consumers from data corruption and crashes. -OR- 2) AMD disabled the feature to force consumers to purchase new hardware. Probably both are true to some extent.

If you have a PCIe 4 GPU, GPU-Z will tell you more accurately. An earlier version showed that I had a rev 4 PCIe bus, and a Gen 4 GPU. The most current release showed a PCIe Gen3 bus with a Gen4 GPU :(

Ah, but registered DIMMs *do* work in a T5500. So upgrading to stupid amounts of RAM in the T5500 is much cheaper than a T3500. Of course, it is much harder (impossible?) to overclock a T5500...
