    Building Home Network Suggestions ?

I also have a relatively big home network. I use a number of secondhand enterprise-grade equipment as they're typically more capable and oftentimes, cheaper, than consumer-grade ones. Untangle HomePro NGFW on HP N40L Cisco 3560G Layer-3 switch (VLANs and inter-VLAN routing) Cisco 2621XM with...

Ok, can anyone help me tweak this setup? This is my Plex server, FWIW. The CPU was upgraded from an i5-4570 to an E3-1285v4. Z97-D3H Noctua NH-U12P SE2 1050Ti 32GB DDR3 1600 Are there tweaks I can do in BIOS to squeeze more oomph out of this Xeon? CPU-Z details: https://valid.x86.fr/isguxl...

What is the purpose of not covering the back of GPU die

In the OP's example, the GPU's cooler/heatsink bracket might be in the way if the backplate didn't have cutouts for it. In the other examples, I can't discern the presence of a cooler bracket to cause any issues with the backplate.

What do you recommend for fan setup?

Just to reiterate, "hot air rises up" does not apply here or is negligible if you already have front-to-back airflow through the case. Speaking strictly about top-of-case fan placements and direction, particularly if you have a tower cooler, top-rear should be blowing out while top-front (if...

What do you recommend for fan setup?

For your case, it's easier.... both the rear and top fans should be exhaust. For cases that can accomodate 2 or 3 top-mount fans, the fan nearest the front should be inlet, while the one nearest the back should be exhaust. Gamers Nexus has provided a very detailed comparison on thermals for...

ASRock Rack Unveils M.2 Slot Graphics Card

^ I think the meme was meant to be a joke. Although, other than the novel idea, I really don't see the need for such modules when the industry has been embedding the display circuitry on the motherboard for the most part of 30 years.

Those were my original go-to-cpu plan but they're even more expensive to get. The most sensible reason I can think of is that the 4th Gen Core i7 is relatively more popular due to it being more widely compatible across many 4th/5th Gen motherboards. The E3-1285 V4 on the other hand, will only...

Second monitor is showing as 1 and I cant change it? - windows 10

If the "make this my main display" check box is greyed out, it means that the current display, "2", is already the primary display. If you want display 1 to be primary, click on the "1" display in "Rearrange your displays" then select the "make this my main display" check box.

Thanks @lexluthermiester and @Zyll Goliath. Here's a curve ball... I am confused between getting the 1285 v4 and the 1285L v4. It is my understanding that the one with the "L" is the low TDP version, base clock is slightly slower, and should perform a little worse than the "regular" (non- "L")...

I have a Plex server with the following relevant specs: i5-4570 Z97-D3H 32GB 1050Ti GPU (for HW transcoding) On top of Plex, I would also like to run a couple of light-duty VMs. Does upgrading replacing the CPU to an E3-1285 V4 going to be something worth it?

    TPU's Nostalgic Hardware Club

How about a 12 y/o case that's still in use? Gigabyte iSolo 210 from 2008... the Core 2 era. I built my first LGA775 here but it's now home to my Ryzen 5 3600. It's getting a little long in the tooth but I've always been a function-over-form kind of guy. TPU ran a review of this case 13 years...

PC KEEPS RANDOMLY RESTARTING I NEED HELP!

As others have mentioned: Specs? My take: 1. Have you tried Optimized Defaults in BIOS or are you currently OC'ing? 2. Try using WhoCrashed to see if the BSOD dump holds any clues as to what caused the fault
