Question for the crunchers - Monthly Cost

@Melvis -I think it helps if one is employed, I`m far from rich, but I agree the electricity charges are steep here. I don`t have an watt-meter since I have resumed crunching but I estimate It costs me around $25 a week...dunno maybe more or less... I figure thats a cheap hobby for me to...

Tip: By adding a `6` in the URL as below, we get much cleaner looking page from Free-Dc. http://stats6.free-dc.org/stats.php?page=user&proj=bwcg&name=797865 Found this while spying/lurking on another teams forum :D Works with firefox and chrome, I have not tried any other browsers.

    WCG-TPU Cruncher's Hardware/Tech Support Discussion Thread

There are 2 beta bios updates after the last stable vers. F13, and as far as I can discover through the myriad of x58 forums out there, these beta`s never included an micropdate / added compatability for X56xx`s. I really don`t want to flash a perfectly good board with beta bios`s - unless I...

    WCG-TPU Cruncher's Hardware/Tech Support Discussion Thread

Worst fears confirmed! I cant even install Win7 with my X5670 and GA-X58-UD4P mobo, system cannot restart during install. CPUID from bios is trying to tell me I have an i7 970x in the socket, and is also reporting a clock speed of 2.00ghz at default bios. Without touching any settings in the...

Thanks for chiming in Caps, thats a nice speed to be crunching at. I`ve never made it past 4.0 without errors appearing amongst my WU`s - I`ll be happy if can crunch at 3.8 on minimal voltage with the UD4P.

    WCG-TPU Cruncher's Hardware/Tech Support Discussion Thread

Others have reported that they cannot go past 150 base clock with the X56xx xeons and also cannot perform restarts. I cannot find out for myself until my new PSU and cooler arrive sometime this week. I have sunk a little bit of money into this little project, hence my uneasiness from what I`m...

    WCG-TPU Cruncher's Hardware/Tech Support Discussion Thread

Assistance Required Please! So I bought an unused X58-UD4P and an used X5670 from ebay for some crunching fun :kookoo: Before I bought the mobo I quickly researched if the X56xx xeons were OK with the board, which it is after updating the bios to the latest known - all very simple and obvious...

Dumped the Q9550 rig and now have a Phenom 1090T / AM3 mobo in its place, $100 well spent. ($70 US) Great budget 6 core cruncher, I`d grab another one if the power bill wasn`t already so high :)

Had a massive lightning storm at 2am last night. I was lying in bed telling myself not to be so damn lazy and go out to the garage and shut down my crunchers. Too late..a crack and a loud bang and the power went out. Thankfully they all booted up this morning with no probs. Downtime was only...
