Hah, I upgraded from an intel i740 to a 32Mb GeForce 256 back in January 2000. It was like getting a whole new system...Q3 running smoothly at 800x600 on a 17" CRT monitor...lol.. I paid US$300 for the card IIRC.

The 'third level' was the best IMHO..the area with the river, lady of the lake, grassland etc. If you had a decent weapon/spell capability, you could have a lot of fun on that level.:)

Diskeeper, as always, is my choice! Fragmentation prevention is cool.

^ Looks good; I'd use the manufacturer's diagnostic tools always if possible. It should be able to scan the entire drive and provide a health report. Once you've formatted the drive, you can always use chkdsk to check for filesystem errors (it's going to takes ages on a 1TB though).

You mean in-game server browser? It still sucks the proverbials. Slow, clunky, doesn't filter properly, and now the refresh button seems to have gone missing.

Does active cooling matter all that much if the drive is only for backup i.e. occasional, use? A good aluminum enclosure and a decent SATA drive should do the trick I feel. I am using a 320GB 2.5" drive in a Vantec nexstar sx enclosure for backups from my notebook, and it works nicely..cool...
