Hello

I am just questioning how good the ati 4870 is. Im a real fan and looking at getting one.
The main game i will be playing is cod4. A guy told me he has a ati 4870 and gets around 200fps in cod4 with 1024x???? resolution, where another guy told me he has a 8800gtx and gets 333fps.
Is this correct?
What fps should i expect with the ati 4870?
Is the guy with the 8800GTX lying?

the others specs to the pc im looking at is;
e8500
pq5 pro motherboard
4gig (2x2gigs) dd2 800mhz ram
470W Tr2 powersupply.

Your advice and support is supply appreciated

Regards

CoD4? I get around 70-100fps. 1680x1050, all settings at full, 4x AA

8800GTX guy is lying, the 4870 is more powerful.

The PC you want is one HELL of a PC (better than mine, and I can max all my games - cept Crysis), although I'm very worried about the PSU. I don't think it will be powerful enough, and remember, you NEED 2 PCI-E 6-pin connectors.

Agreed on the psu.

I'd look to a 600W or so, but stick with good brands.

Thermaltake is fine, but Corsair is probably the best for the money.

Good luck with your build.

The 4870 is an awesome card and can handle any game maxxed out. However I would definately invest in a more powerful PSU. At least a 600W should be plenty.

They are both talking through there a**over 200fps at high res there are plenty of reviews around for both video cards. goto this site re performance on video cards and COD4 http://www.guru3d.com/category/call_duty_4_pc/

And you will need to look at a good power supply 650 plus

The Source engine (from what I have read, could be wrong) is locked to 333fps MAX and I get that on CSS at points, but it's generally over 150-200fps.

CoD4 I would say you'd get 70-100fps like me unless you overclock that CPU, if you do expect a bit more.

Cod4 is also FPS locked .....

change this in your config_mp and config_sp files found in your player folder

seta com_maxfps "999"

I run crossfire and get between 80-200 fps at 1680 1050 res with max and 4xAA in game.

Forgot to mention a peak the fps in CCS .

The main thing is... you don't need 200FPS. You run anywhere from 70-100 and the game is going to be smooth. That moron with the 333Fps has his head in some smelly, smelly place.

Go for a psu over 600W with 80% efficiency. It will save you money in the long run.

Depending on just how much you want to spend (and what performance you need), you could just buy an HD 4850 and keep the power supply you have.

If all your doing is playing CoD4 and CSS a HD 4850 is more than enough. I get 200fps+ on both of them with 8x AA and 16x ASF.

I think a 4870 will give you about 70fps or more at 1920x1200 with everything maxed.
A good PSU is the Corsair HX 620 modular, like the one in my new system.

I just dled the COD4 demo, so I'll let you know how it goes with my 4850, but I suspect it will also be fine at 1920x1200 maxed.

If you're just gaming at those resolutions, then a 4870 would be a waste -- a 4850 would be more than enough.

I run 1440x900. I just set everything to max and play and xfire says I get 150-220fps average on both with full filters.
