Warner Bros. Digital Distribution announced today that the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment game, F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin will be available for digital download via partners in North America in conjunction with the day and date retail release. The game will be available through IGN Entertainment's digital retail store, Direct2Drive, and via Steam, a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC games with over 15 million accounts worldwide.
"More and more gamers are taking advantage of digital distribution to access videogames," said Thomas Gewecke, President, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution. "Digital distribution is going to be an important facet of the gaming world and we are glad to be a part of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's efforts to offer additional, convenient, and flexible options for players."
So now you can get F.E.A.R. 2 without even leaving your house. Users who have pre-ordered the game will be able to download it the same day the retail version hits store shelves on February 10, 2009.

it's unfortunate that despite this, I don't like having to play games I bought (even on disc) on Steam...like when I rushed out to buy HL2 on release..
it's just another irritating requirement, and they charge a load for online purchase too, with VAT on top?! how can you charge VAT on a download? pssh..

That will depend on were you live at least and who you buy of. For example Newegg we don't get charged tax. BUT one thing for sure D2D we do..

Fallout 3 (Pre-Order) $49.95
Tax $3.50
Total $53.45

And VAT would be on top of that too. And back 6 year ago PC games were £30 thats more like $60. So £30.

All though there is a kick ass heath system in the UK and if some one says it's not kick ass trying living with out one as you don't know till you lose it.

true, NHS is helpful enough, but it sure is irritating that, upon buying my friend CS:S, I then had to pay something like $8 extra in tax, which although not so much, it threw me off, I really didn't expect it and had to re-balance my debit account to be able to afford it..sigh

1. you would pay the same tax in a store,
2. You don't have tp spend gas money.
3. You get auto updates/ and can't lose the cd,

Tax is government's fault, not steams.

Releasing the original Multiplayer F.E.A.R Combat ruined the online Fear community. Its almost non-existant. Most of those that still play the game like to exploit glitches in the game that developers failed to address. Actually the games support was almost non-existant.

Releasing F.E.A.R 2 online for download should help with the piracy, and will surely invite more morons to play the game. F.E.A.R had so much potential. It could have easily taken over every single first person shooter game and pushed first person shooters to the cutting edge of professional gameplay. I really do hope the game devs dont stop supporting F.E.A.R 2 aswell.

Steam is the worst concept ever. 15 Million people forced to make an account. <--< Seems to me like theres something majorly wrong with the individual identification process that can be easily resolved without 3rd party trojans. <--< Tax that.
If you own the game, you should own the game!
If you want to demo the game, rent it, or try your free download.

Steams anti-cheat protocols suck big time. So much for F.E.A.R.
