I seem to have a problem wiv my DVD-RW drives' writing capabilities. Both of the drives are 16x , and 48x on CD's. But I am only get a maximum value of 40x within Nero, and it doesnt seem to go higher. Its also saying my driver can only do 4x on 8x media, and ripping DVD's at 4x

I'm thinking i need some help, otherwise i could have bought used, slower drives and got the same performance :(

Thanks in Advance Guys

Try different media. Also insert the disk before you burn, it determines maximum/minimum speed only when you have a disk in the drive.

if you want DVD´s to last, burn at 8x maximum,
also, some burners dislike 16x media, my pioneer 108D just hates Verbatim 16x DVD+R
take it to account also that burners start at 1x-2x and go upwards in the burning process,
burning at 16x will get a DVD in around 5-6 mins and burning at 8x will get it at 7-8 min,

as for CD burning, 40x is ok, you can try to update the firmware on your burner (check manufacturers site),

ripping is sometimes limited by manufacturers to ¨prevent piracy¨, some modified firmwares remove the limit, but then again, depends on manufacturer and if someone bothered to make a modified firmware.

Ive tried differeent media before, but both the drives are still only recognised as capable of 40x on cd's and 8x/4x on dvd's :(

I'm tempted to do the firmware flash, but there must be sumething else i can try first, because they are literally a few monthes old and i dont quite wana void the warranty on them yet :D

Thanks again

make sure you are using the lastest version of nero, and if using different media and upgrading nero doesn't work then flash your drivers, i could never burn at 8x until i flashed my driver.

ok man, i'll try installing the nero disk that came with the sony drive, since the pioneer was an oem.

i have firmware flashed a drive before, so i rekon i can do it again as a last resort lol :)

i have had nero 7 before, but it had terrible lock-up issues, and always put skips on cd's  but i think that is a common fault with nero 7.

anyways, i'll give it all a try :)
