New GTX 280=10410 3D mark 6?

just bought a GTX 280(EVGA) replacing my aging 8800GTS's (first run 640MB models) ran 3dmark6 and scored about 1300 pts lower than with the older 8800's. 10410 vs. 12350 :wtf:

hmmm........Is this normal?

Normal, with your cpu... clock that q66 up

2006 is more of a CPU benchmark now.

I was going to say give vantage a shot to make the 280 shine, but i see you're on xp.

I went through the same thing, but, now realize an almost 3 year old benchmark is just that....a 3 year old benchmark

It really has been said. In past games the GTX280 will still perform better, but it has to do with the shader model and the desired effect of the architecture. Don't think your system is bottle necking it.

Am I the only one that thinks that's a little odd? My less powerful card and definitely less powerful CPU (also on XP) did better than that. I would think it bears a little digging.

No, that's very low, something is amiss.

I can get nearly 15k w/ half the cpu and half the gpu, in vista. Something is wrong.

3d mark 2006 score depend 70% on cpu , 3d mark vantage depend 80% on physics (also cpu and high nvidia card).

Hmmm......very strange, re-installed drivers and set the "physx" on and pulled a 3Dmark score of 13039 (don't think the physx being on made a diff, just telling what i did)...Crysis runs at about 40 to 45 fps dipping to 25fps on occasion, but still very smooth...(very high settings) the sli'd 8800's would stutter and dip from around 28 fps to 11 fps in places...FEAR averages over 100fps, with a max of 300+ and a min of 50...just quircky drivers I guess, or hope. By the way nothing is OC'd.

re-install the drivers and use driver cleaner to get rid of whats left of the old drivers in registry.

Yes, you'll have to crank cpu clock to get high 3dmark06 scores. I get like less than 13k, but get almost 14k in vantage on the same system. My weak athlon doesn't do well in 3dmark06 at all, but my games scream, so it's all good! I'd crank that cpu to at least 3Ghz and you'll see the diff.

thanks guys, I played around with the cards timings and got almost 14, I'm not really to comfy with OCing stuff so I put it back to stock. My games do scream though.
