Problems with maximus 2 and seagate barracudas

Ok so I got a asus maximus formula II as a gift and bought myself a core 2 quad Q8200. So the CPU arrived today and I went ahead and installed it and the motherboard. It posts and I can get through bios menus fine, but when ever I Try to boot vista I get the green loading bar for half a secns then a blue screen with some text that flashes to fast for me to read. I've tried to boot into safe mode, but the same thing happens. I've tried boot the vista disk and repairing, but after several minutes of trying I get a could not repair message. When trying to repair from the disk it shows all the right info disk size, os, Ect, but after several tries still nothing. My hd is a seagate barracuda 7200.10 320GB. Anyone know anything I haven't tried?

Also my old mothereboard was a gigabyte 945p and my old CPU was C2D E6400.

is this a fresh install, with format?

I was thinking you are trying to boot the existing OS and the drivers are most likely conflicting.

put the disk on ur old system, format one, boot from that one in ur new system, install vista, put the other, format

Yeah I'm trying to load an already installed os. I tried to do an upgrade install so I could keep what was already on the drive, but it says custom/upgrade install dissabled. I have a new 1TB barracuda that I could a fresh install on, I would like to know how or if I would get things like music and photos off the old drive?

Install the OS on your new drive and get everything updated, installed, etc. Then while the system is off, plug your old drive in. Once in Windows you should be able to browse your old drive for the files you need and swap them to the new one.
