Im sure that if it was important data it would be backed up elsewhere. These massive storage capacity hard disk drives are JUST that.

I too would opt for a Western Digital hard disk drive over a Seagate. Im actually updating my NAS drives to the 2TB WD's when they are made available in my area.

BTW, the movies and music i watch and listen too on the ' slower ' hard drives dont play faster or better on ' faster ' hard disk drives. As for the program setup files i keep on these massive storage drives, well, who REALLY benches install times of programs, and if they do . . . Who REALLY cares if the game or application took an extra 3 seconds to install.

Thats what backups and RAID arrays are for. Personally, with this much data, I wouldn't even think about running the drive solo.

I'd say they're too expensive though, compared to the 1.5TB disks, however they're new so will drop in price soon enough.

Try hitting a 5400RPM drive with multiple connections at a LAN Party. When its being hit up for large movies on a gigabit connection it tends to slow things way down. I learned the hard way not to buy 5400RPM drives for storage if im to use them in a "server" for LANs.
And installing games from images off a 5400RPM hard drive is noticeably slow too.

Very nice, but not until the price drops would I consider this. Dollar for dollar the 1.5 TB still gets my vote. Regarding speed, at 5400 rpm that should be acceptable for storing media files,etc. as a back up.

I might get two for RAID1 if I was a huge pirate lord. I might get a whole bunch if I needed a colossal amount of space, like a mainframe or something. Outside of that I don't see to much use for that.

How can someone actually have 2TB of porn in the first place? That's like 80 blu-ray rips, and that's assuming they used the full 25GB of the disc when they made it...

Damn, I was just about to post that too. It's 7200rpm. In the reviews, one guy says that it's just about as fast as the 300GB Velocicraptor.
