Hi does anybody knows why the 3.3ns RAM from Samsung owns a lower temperature then
the Samsung 5ns RAM? Runned 3dmark on both machines. Checked this yesterday with a x600(3.3ns) and radeon9600non-pro(5ns). Shoudnt be the speed the only difference???

Is it possible to destroy ram if your hands arent ANTI-STATIC? The result = dam HOT RAM ..what your opinions?

tnx for all answer

to make it simple: higher speed > more heat

_usually_ static isn't much of a problem, but to make sure nothing happens: just touch your case before you measure the temp of your ram chips :)

i was anti-static and touched everytime the case AND my radiator at blank metal.

if i understand you right, you are wondering why the 3.3ns bga chips are running cooler than the 5 ns tsop chips?

thats because of the package .. the bga chip is soldered to the pcb using ~150 tiny solder balls spread evenly under the package. this conducts the heat to the pcb very fast.

the tsop chips are only soldered on the pins which are relatively far away from the heat generation .. the package is just sitting on top of the pcb without good contact so heat transfer is rather bad here too.

also those chips are probably made using a different production process 0.13u vs. 0.15u maybe?

technically it is possible to destroy any chip by static .. even if you just touch the package. it has never happened to me. if you want to be sure make sure you touch the metal of your case before playing with stuff - the case metal is grounded

Hrm that sounds interesting...explained the same in the german forum and happens mostly to people that install a new cooler on their card.(Guarantee is lost, of course)
Why is the RAM after the installation hotter then before?!

I dont think that any production difference is the cause of that problem.
