yeah i have a gateway with still about 6 months left under warranty and i dont think ill get a free upgrade to windows 7

Dell and others have been doing that for years. They don't ship an operating system disc, and after the first few months, I couldn't even bully one out of them. The best I could get was a system restore with all their junk on it.

Not is the answer why Microsoft will on 14.4.2009 put XP on an extended life-cycle?

From 14.4.2009 Microsoft will only provide updates for security issues, no more bug fixes, etc,...
