BenQ introduced its newest product: the nScreen i91 All-in-One PC. The PC uses a monolithic design with the head-unit housing the system and a 19 inch 16:9 widescreen HD dislpay. For a change, BenQ opts for the AMD Yukon-based Sempron 210U processor instead of Intel Atom. Other pieces of hardware include 1 GB of DDR2 memory, 160 GB of storage space, a card-reader and built-in 1.3 MP webcam.

The bottom-right of the screen holds a rotary-switch that controls volume and power, TV-style. BenQ rates this PC to consume up to 80% less power in comparison to conventional desktop PCs, with its consumption rated at around 30W. The company is planning to make something similar using Intel's Atom processor. This nScreen i91 will be available at around $512 from the end of this month in Asian markets.

awww, now the mac users can buy a slow, compact PC from somewhere else for half the price.

[/sarcasm]

I kinda like these PC's, very mum and dad friendly. its more or less just a laptop with a stand instead of a keyboard.

Is this a typo "around '$512'" because that would slap the iMac around for awhile.

this is an intel atom (think asus eeepc) with a bigger screen. $500 USD seems about right for this product.

Why a 16:9 ratio for the screen? Why are more manufacturers embracing this stupid trend of decreasing usable screen space? 16:10 is just about the max I can tolerate in a computer.

WS is nice for watching videos and some games, but for everything else, it's a loss of screen real estate.

16:9 is the more common standard. just get over it.

16:9 support list:
DVD movies
Blu ray movies (some)
Xbox360
PS3
Wii
Widescreen supporting PC games
Console games ported to PC
2D/windows desktop

16:10 support list
widescreen supported PC games
2D/windows desktop

Dunno about you, but i think black bars or a stretched image are retarded.

I did say that it was good for movies and gaming.

But, how exactly is it useful when you actually lose vertical resolution for everything else including work related applications (Office, Photoshop etc)? PCs especially laptops are not only about movies and games, no? 1280x1024 > 1280x800 for productivity, there is no question about it.

BTW, many games still don't support true widescreen IIRC. They decrease the vertical view from a 4:3 or 5:4 resolution instead of expanding it horizontally.

And not all movies fit even the 16:9 ratio..you can still get black bars.

16:9 is a nice scam by manufacturers..smaller screens at the same price.

but its still a lot more real estate than a 4:3 screen.
BTW, many games still don't support true widescreen IIRC. They decrease the vertical view from a 4:3 or 5:4 resolution instead of expanding it horizontally..
vert- games are becoming rarer and rarer. there are even community mods to fix those games to hor+
And not all movies fit even the 16:9 ratio..you can still get black bars..
I mentioned that. a few blu ray movies (even when sold on DVD) are in a stupid ratio thats even wider than 16:9
16:9 is a nice scam by manufacturers..smaller screens at the same price.
actually, wrong. 16:10 came out because its cheaper to make using old 4:3 manufacturing tech. why do you think two sizes exist in the first place?
