Is a GTX260 OK for my system???

Hi guys, I'm thinking of EVGA GTX 260 896Mb to replace my 8800 which struggles with AA and at high resolutions presumably because of its lack of memory.

I'm assuming the card wont be completely bottlenecked by my system, its only PCI 1.0 (x16), and my processor isn't exactly the fastest even with the overclock.

Any suggestions comments welcome! Thanks

I have one and I use a E5200, on a Open Box P5Q Pro.. you should be fine. And I have the same PSU as you do, you will see a major performance jump with the 260, just make sure you get the 55nm with 216 shaders, the prices are low enough you can bag one of the bad boys like the EVGA or the XFX.

Would work out great Jasper!! GTX260 is huge jump over the GTS 320.

It should do fine with that processor. But GTX 260 SLi could use something a little more powerful.

But since you are saying only one GTX 260 you should be perfectly fine. I am 100% sure.

PCI-Express x16 and not PCI-Express x16 2.0 will make no difference to you unless you are talking Tri-SLi.

On a slightly different note to go SSC or not, its only a little bit more and it should overclock even more???

Core 216 is a good idea if you are buying from retail channels. Best deal on core 216's at newegg are:

I would actually shoot for my second link because the engineers at EVGA are pretty good so you shouldn't have a problem getting the recertified model 216 for $189.99 shipped.

the 4850x2 is a great bang/buck... even quite a bit more than a gtx 260 BUT there a couple setbacks:

- heats more (dual GPU)
- can have any dual GPU problems (well same goes for a gtx 295 etc... does it make ppl buy less of them? not really)
- LOUD FANS
- may have a bit later driver releases sometimes

The 4850x2 wasn't created by ATi.... it was invented by Sapphire which means it can and will run into more problems than one designed by ATi IMO.
