GB is cheap here for some reason. It could be a typo in their homepage anyway. The same retailer eventually had one HD4870 X2 for 275€. I went there to buy lots of those, but they were on vacations (august).

Yeah but suggesting that 40% of performance difference is negligible is a bit stretch don't you think? Specially considering that the OP had 2 HD4850's in Crossfire and wants to keep that kind of performance.

I myself am about to return my 9800GTX+ for a 260. But I would get the 280 if I had the extra 100 beans to throw at it right now. The good thing is that I'm going SLI in my next build and I can add another 260 or even a 280 down the road, depending on what things are like in fall (I won't need it until Modern Wardare 2 comes out).

As far as ATI, I liked them, and I had a 9500 back in the day, but I won't even be thinking of considering ATI for another couple of years. We'll see where the physics engines and drivers stand at that point. Right now I see the same flaws in owning an ATI card as I did back when I went back to nVidia after owning the 9500.

Exactly. Ketxx was comparing a single HD4850 to a GTX285 and saying that both offer the same performance or experience or whatever. He even rejects/downplays the 12 fps difference in the link he provided, from 27 to 39 in Crisis high, no AA/AF, which happens to be a difference of 44%. And after that, or before that actually, he calls the other one nvidiot, because he said:

Luck of the draw as anything is in hardware, I have found however, that Gainward rarely lets me down when it comes to overclocking headroom, I got a real good deal with the gainward in the UK, I bought it about 4 weeks after they were released at £160 at the current exchange rate thats just 175 Euro's I beleive

On the secondary card for Physx, you just dont use the SLi bridge, the 2nd card will be detected, you install drivers for it and enable it in your Physx console.

They do your right as i explained on page one but his two dont overclock well, one of them is only a 512MB card so thats his limit on memory and the 285 is 5-10% faster than the 280 (which i went to from Xfire 4850's) so he should see a small performance increase, but certainly not much.

As Tatty said the GTX285 does better than the GTX280 and random has been very clear with that he wants to stay away from multi-gpu setups, because he is having scaling problem with them. Scaling issues are not widespread but if they happen in the games you like, it won't matter how much faster 2xHD4850's are in general (and they trully aren't). With GTX285 he won't loose much performance overall, it will smoke his HDs in the games where Crossfire wasn't scaling and will get a setup that consumes less, overclocks better and doesn't need so much care. IMHO that sounds like a very good "upgrade" for his needs.

hmmm, interesting if you looking for power and performance for cheap, it would be ati, no im gonna try not to sound like the ati fanboy inside of me and give both a fair chance. now if your looking for power and paying top dollar for the power your gonna go with nvidia nothing wrong with that i payed top dollar for my 4870x2tri fan asus when it came out and nothing can even slow it down, there comes a time unless your a bench marker that your like holy crap my cpu stomps every game i throw at it, is there any point to upgrade more at this point, and of course you got those on the bleeding edge of technology such as me that says yes, but for just casual gamers theres no point to yell these arguments at them, ive owned nvidia products and ive owned ati products and ive had good exsperiences with both, but the only reason i stick with ati is there prices seem fair on the stuff they release. i know this didnt settle a dam thing, but i was just exspressing how i feel. oh and one more thing.....is there any games just curious cause i havent seen any that says ATI the way it was meant to be played at the intro of any game...cause i think nvidia is the only one that does that? for what pupose i wonder?

definitely the 285 man you will love it, i came to a GTX260 from 2x4870 512 in CF and loved every minute. i never really had scaling issues as such, but couldn't stand that my MIN fps hadn't improved much at all, and found myself on single gpu performance a lot.

GT200 is a different class of GPU, with a great architecture for tweaking. i reckon you'll love it.

WOW lots of replies, I was asleep sorry for not answering lmao.

I'm playing WoW, The Last Remnant and games that I like to keep windowed. And for the record, me buying a gtx285 will definitely show me increases in windowed games and especially wow which i know is overkill but its waste to be just using one of my 4850's.

I'm also tired of not being able to play crysis wars on 32 bit because I get stutters from my crossfire config, don't get me wrong though its not micro stuttering its something else in my system which I can never figure out. So I'm not expecting a big boost, I'm just expecting smoother gaming and better performance in the windowed games I play.

And its only going to cost me 140 AUD more to get a card that is single core and matches my two 4850's so think of me as paying someone to fuse my two 4850's together into one badass card

In reality the 4850 does not trail a GTX285 that badly, and here be the Proof. Now before you start crying about the 12FPS difference @ 1920*1200, remember, overclocking, and the fraction you pay for a 4850 vs a GTX280/5.

The review you linked really does show that the 4870 512MB aint very far behind a GTX 280, and can often gain the lead if AA is involved.

Considering the fact that in australia the 4870 1GB goes for a lot less than a GTX 280, i think its something that people definately neeed to be aware of.

I've got very mixed feelings... because 4870 1GB is only selling for 305 dollars now and its powercolor!

If I spend 619 AUD on a gtx285, just how much more faster would that be? I would not like to spend 300+ extra to find that the gtx285 only trails by 15fps.
